Which low magnification scope?

#1 Post by techguy »

After shooting a multi-gun event the other day I quickly realised that I need a scope rather than my red dot (or as well as) for my 15-22. The targets we were shooting were pretty damn small, and I picked up a bunch of penalties because of this, which trashed my overall scores for the day.

I'm hoping to fit a scope, something in the region of 1.5-5 and mount a micro red dot on an angle so can use that for close up fast target acquisition.

I don't have a massive budget, something around £100 would be perfect. I've seen both a Leapers and a Nikko Stirling which both would seem to fit the bill, but I can't find much in the way of reviews on either of them. (links below)

Anybody here got any experience of either of these two scopes, or have any recommendations?

Thanks!

I've got the 'same' Leapers scope but in 3-12 magnification. For the money i'd say its a decent scope and the optics don't 'milk-out' when using it outdoors like most budget scopes do.

Plus the lower the magnification the less you notice poorer quality lenses (imo). Have you looked at a Simmons Whitetail Classic? 1.5-bowl IIRC, tried and tested scope and would be a lot lighter than both of the options above and usually go for less than £100

Mark has given the perfect answer to your needs....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I have one, but you can't have it!

If you find one make sure it's the original Philippines made one, there's been a couple on Ebay going for around £70 to £120 recently.

Plus one on the whitetail.

If you happen to in a Cabelas check out their own range.
A mate, who is a dyed in the wool S&B fiddler, bought one and says its a cracker.
