Has the Royal Marine Corp got themselves a new rifle?

#1 Post by Tower75 »

Hi, all.

It's not the best of pics. But doe that look like a new pattern of L85 (SA80) to anyone? The L85 is short, yes, but those rifles look like actual carbines.

Just thought it was interesting, and a neat pic.

L22A2 Carbine.

Develoved when H&K revamped weapons system I believe. Aircrew, armoured and RM were the recipients.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Didn't realise the Marines got them as well, though it was just vehicle and air crews, watch anything about Prince Harry in Afghan and you'll see a few decent shots of them there.

They've also modified the L85A2 a few years back with new rails and Acogs

I think it was to satisfy the need of amphibious and hovercraft drivers and for boarding parties as the stocks of MP5's and HK53s purchased in the 80's are almost depleted....

That carbine in the link above is one of the A1 trials carbines - a very rare beast indeed!
