A nice article in deed,
I seem to remember reading, perhaps as far back as School, that more people were killed on the Athletics field each year than by Firearms. Apparently Javelin and the other hammer throwing type disciplines were particularly dangerous - at that time.
Football posts falling on players was also a point of concern at one time,
But I do not remember anyone crying out for those sports to be banned, although Ester Rantzen may have campaigned for better made goals,
