If only 1, which 1?

#1 Post by Dangermouse »

Several times now I have had to fight the urge to sell up all my shooting gear and walk away. It is only the hassle of getting an FAC in the future that is preventing me from doing so.
Partly the hassle of re loading, partly not having the time to shoot or re load, the cost of clubs, safety certificates, not having spare cash month after month, the poor weather and possibly several other impact factors have all added up over the last year to make me think about packing it in.
I have so much kit now that the hassle of packing up is almost enough to keep me doing nothing at all.

At the moment I have 3 firearms
A F Class 32" barrelled Rem 700 in .308
A 9mm SGC lever release &
A Sec1 Hatsan shotgun.

If you were to have just one firearm what would it be and what are your reasons for choosing that one? Not necessarily one from my list, and just for targets, not Zombies etc

I think I would be swayed to wards a long rifle as I do like the distance work and can always borrow the club under lever or 10/22 if I do some gallery work.

Thoughts please,

If i had to only have one type of gun/shooting, without doubt it would be my S1 shotgun(s) for PSG. It is however the most cost intensive shooting i do so if that was the ultimate deciding factor i'd probably have to have a rethink.

Why not do a month or so of only one type of shooting and see which is your favourite/which you miss the most then take it from there?

FN FAL 7.62......the reason is it's just so darn good.

Holds so many memories of military range days. Also the look on peoples faces when you walked down the street wanting to have a 'pop' at you.....and they had nothing bigger !

Would love to have one......someday my sweet.

keep the .308, lose the rest. to be competitive with the others you need to practice constantly, and that will mean presumably extra club memberships, and a great deal of ammo, whereas the .308 can be used for relaxation/social shooting (yes there is such a thing :D ) and yet can still be used as the base for competition should you feel the need.

I'd keep my CSR AR-15 as it's the gun I use the most.

What's the point of keeping a gun that you barely use and selling one that you do just because you "like" it more? That seems like a way to do even less shooting!

Keep the 308. "Plunk" for fun at 100, compete at 1000, ammunition readily available to give good results at both ends of the scale as wallet permits, and reload when the mood takes you. Failing that pm me and I'll give you the address of my nearest dealer, send it, and I'll give it a good home....... :shakeshout:

For me it'd be a S1 shotgun... more grin factor for me personally than anything else.

Plus you *could* shoot PSG, Target shotgun, clays and even rough/game shooting...

DM, you are breaking my heart here

Keep the .308 for the reasons already given here.

I know if there was only one rifle to stay in the house it would be my 22C.

I've had those thoughts several times over the last couple of years for similar reasons (except reloading - I keep it simple!) but each time I've got through them and actually increased the numbers of rifles I own!

For me I just accepted the fact that I wouldn't get to the range as often as I liked and made an effort to enjoy the times I could.

Back to the original question if I could only keep one? I couldn't and wouldn't choose. They are all mine and for me the joy is just as much in the owning as in the shooting.
