6.5 Grendel

Saying as the only bloke I "know" is currently MIA on the forum I thought I'd ask if anyone has any personal experience or now someone who does have something in this caliber?

I was looking for another AR and saw one on the "other place" but in 6.5 flavour...... got me thinking.

The research so far does point to that it does what it says on the tin and I suppose new cartridges have to start somewhere.....

The Grendel uses the same 220 Russian case as does the 22 and 6mm PPC, which means any 7.62x39mm-type bolt-action rifle would be suitable as a donor action.

How about a CZ 527 chambered in 6.5 Grendel?

Just out of curiosity how much do barrels cost.
Lets say I was to build a 6.5 Grendel on a bolt action how much would you expect to pay for the barrel.

Barrel blanks cost 'around' £300. Chambering and fitting say £250.

However you would be 'nuts' to choose the 6.5 Grendel. It only came into being because of its slightly smaller head diameter - meaning it could be made to work in the 223 AR/M16 platform. The other alternative is the 6.8 SPC.

A much better alternative for your bolt gun would be the 6mmBR or the 6.5x47 or the 260 Rem. Grendel brass is running at around a £1 per case - so is 6.5x47 for that matter. Choose the 260 Rem.

Fireman-Andy on "ShootForum" has one and he had issues with tight extraction untion he had a widget fitted, I think he said something like "easycam" but i might be wrong. They have excellent ballistic performance like all the 6.5's and he shotts his to 1000 yards when we all met up at Bisley.

I have a grendel upper. It took some sorting, but eventually i got to top end loads with vhit 133 and the 123 grain scenar. I fitted a sarony lever, but to be honest, it doesn,t need it. The gun has never been the worlds most accurate, it averages around 3/4" but it will do that with regularity. However, i feel that its slightly undergunned capacity wise for such a bullet. I,m chambering another barrel for it shortly, in 6mmAR which is a necked down grendel. That will push a 90 grain scenar at 2750, and will blow the .223,s into the weeds on the 5/600 practical stages methinks.
