Could you try these targets for me please?
Can I ask a favour please. For some reason there is a dearth of 100 yard ranges in these parts so I’m planning a 2 ½ hour drive to go down to Minsterley Range is Shropshire. My need is to work up some loads for my TR and for an SMLE and No. 4.
Unfortunately most of the 100 yard zeroing targets I’ve found are designed for scoped rifles and therefore have a very small aiming mark. What I’ve done is work up some alternatives to A3 size as attached. My only problem is that I haven’t been able to try them out; in particular to see whether the aiming mark is big enough for iron sights at 100 yards. I don’t want to get all the way down to Minsterley only to find that I can’t see them!
I wonder if anyone who has ready access to a 100 yard range would mind trying out these targets and letting me know if I have the proportions right? Once I get them right I will, of course, make them available through the F-B.
TIA
W

I'll happily print one and have a look.
Have you thought about seeing Mike @ Calton moor- closer and cheaper (oh and indoors)
**Edit are these to be printed at A3 or A4? - I can do either**

Thanks Mike; they are designed for A3.
I did try Calton Moor but got no response to my e-mails so gave up.

You need to ring him just after dark (He will be stalking with clients during the day) - leave him a voice mail if he doesn't answer and he rings back.Watcher wrote:Thanks Mike; they are designed for A3.

What size is the diameter on the 'tin hat' target that you have produced?
I regularly use a 200yd TR target at 100yds to zero my .303s. The 200yd TR target has a 16'' aiming mark and is perfectly good to use.
I should think that a target with a12'' diameter would be more than suitable for 100yds zeroing with a blade foresight.

I've booked with a few pals for Minsterley now but I'll give Calton another try in the New Year.

Reduce it to 1/4 size and sight on it at 25yrds and see what the sight picture looks like, should be about the same full sized at 100yrds.

Why not try a one hour drive to Diggle - we have two 100 yd ranges, both with covered firing-points and concrete benches.Watcher wrote:Can I ask a favour please. I did look at Diggle but, as non-members, there is a limit to how often we could go. As my CFO would put her foot down at another club (two fishing and three shooting) I decided against Diggle.
