Mike, got a link?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Just found it. £160 fine. He did plead guilty though and perhaps the level of fine gives credit for that......... or, is the fine more indicative what the Sheriff thought of the seriousness....?

Either way, the Chief Constable is looking to revoke his tickets and his employers have suspended him! Harsh, very harsh.

May have been worth pleading not guilty and going to full trial.....

Really...?

"Mackenzie (36) of Craggan Valley, Kiltarlity, admitted on May 18 last year failing to comply with conditions of his firearms certificate that he failed to keep the guns in a secure designated place."

"Craig Wood, solicitor, said Mackenzie was married with two children, and had been a keeper at Arberarder for 10 years. “Since this incident he has been suspended by his employers.”

“He had been using his guns and intended to clean them,” said Mr Wood. “He took several phone calls and when the police attended he accepts he should have dealt with it more expeditiously. He is a perfectly reasonable human being.”

Yes, I did, sorry. I had read it that you said Mackenzie had not pleaded guilty......

However, I concur with your advice.

Yes, but that does not include going in to Tesco's this would be committing an offence - same as offensive weapon for your knife - you can carry it in the field whilst actively engaged in a lawful pursuit - but that does not give you the authority for concealed carry. - or carrying anywhere you could not carry a loaded rifle for that matter!

Mike
thought the law allowed for you to make fuel stops etc on your way to and from stalking etc? and as long as not loaded a pistol is probably safer with you than left in the vehicle, and concealed carry would seem a sensible way to go to prevent distress to the public? these things are rarely simple or clear, as long as you have good reason and a court agrees with you then no problems. (although that is unlikely to stop the Police arresting you in the first place, personally I would try and avoid the situation)
NO! Sect 19 of the firearms act - although Section 19 provides a defence of "lawful authority or reasonable excuse" for possession; in the local Tesco or petrol station would not count! - you would not walk in Tesco with your .308 Rifle! so that defence/excuse would not wash - just the same as wandering round Tesco with a bowie knife having just been "hunting" would not wash either. The CPS have a set of charging standards and are more than happy to charge for any firearms offences - look at the guy being done in Scotland now for being asleep at his kitchen table whilst he was cleaning his guns - he is being done for them not being properly secured!

Mike
you may be right about the pistol, however walking around a petrol station with a bowie knife whilst on the way to or from stalking is considered to be a covered under the good reason part of the legislation http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/f ... idance.cfm, as to the guy in scotland how does that relate to a pistol in your control in a holster ? his problem was that he was not in control of the rifles as he was asleep, if your car was stolen off the forecourt with a pistol in it I would expect you to have to answer all sorts of questions as to why it was left outside your control. I personally don't take my .308 walkies around tesco, but its bolt has made the trip to the checkout many times, in the case of a pistol I would personally take the cylinder or slide with me, that way the weapon is safe even if stolen, but thats just me :D

Sorry maybe I am missing something here but, WHO found him asleep in HIS home...Why did whoever found him think it expedient to shop him..and since he was physically present with the guns WTF was he charged for. Seems if you go fo a wizz or you get a sudden and elongated dose of the potsquat you have to lock them away and start again as any irate person can dump you in it..

I just cannot see how this came about..
