Thank you for the reply Paul - I'd didn't think you'd be looking to part with :) I have to admit that the price of them is also a bit prohibative at the moment...but if you know of someone selling one in the future......PaulR wrote:Hi Dougan,
As you suspect, the M1 is hard to get fed up with and I don't see myself parting with it any time soon. Strangely Brown in your original M1 Carbine thread said that he saw one being used at a LERA comp, that was either me or another guy I know well who also has one. In fact, my local club probably has 75% of those imported into the country, we own five in total.
The last one I saw for sale was about 4 years ago and one of our club members managed to get hold of it. I think he paid around £900 which we all thought reasonable, you're probably looking at well over a grand now if you could find one.
All the reloading components/tools are readily available.

Wasn't military issue. I was working in the private sector and being a european company, all the kit was sourced local to them. Same venue, same s***, much more money.ovenpaa wrote: You were shooting the SR9? That is not exactly run of the mill issue stuff then. Was that with Kahles or Zeiss optics?
The scopes were S&B. The best of stuff but you had to set it up yourself - the scope had literally been dropped onto the rifle, wasn't even true and had to be re-positioned for decent eye relief. Very accurate for a non-bolt gun though.
Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
If memory serves, that was the purpose of the SR9. Based it on the HK91 and so avoid export bans as it was a "sporting rifle", where as the PSG-1 and MSG-90 were marketed and sold as "military" weapons.Scotsgun wrote:

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
Rifle: No.4 Enfield. Revolver: Smith&Wesson .357 Model 65. Pistol: Browning Hi-Power, maybe German P38.
Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
Forgot one. High cap magazine fed rifle: M4 .556 carbine.
Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
Pistol, I'm taking this to mean "Handgun"
Colt Python, 4", maybe 6"
Rifle
The well sorted Remington Model Seven in .223, that I let go years ago.
Still haven't found anything like it. I never will for what I sold it for!

I'll take you're word for it, mate. I was basically invited to enter a large storeroom and root around in the boxes until i found something i liked or thought usable. Considering that there were piles of FN FAL clones, HK G41s, MP5s and a whole host of other junk including some god awful Romanian AKs, i did well to get what i did.Sim G wrote:

My choice of sniping rifle was essentially reduced to the Dragunov (complete with awful scope), a weird offering from Baretta and the SR9. Not a bolt gun amongst them. The company just didn't see the use for a rifle with a slow rate of fire and i had to agree in the end, considering the environment.
Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
Salut,
One hangun & one rifle only ....
A) If I were to keep only 1 pistol it would be without a shadow of a doubt my P226 ...
not the one I shoot best with but it was love at 1st sight
It's solid, works all the time, accurate enough, 15 rounds, feels great in my hand.
B) one Rifle ...
there are a lot I'd absolutly love to own, probably a SIG 551 LB, but for the moment I get plenty of fun from 25 to 200 yards with my AR (SDI)

Now if I strech the list a 22 lr rifle would have to be a MAS45... It's heavy & bomb proof, accurate...
and when I win the lotery I hear Ovenpaa alright and I would dearly love a AI AE MkII in 308 ...
Classic rifle... K98, K31 and SMLE ... my heart is torn ...

Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
After noticing that my favorites were more than one pistol and rifle and one pistol sorta isn't a pistol I have two sets;
First is the Galil ARM in 5.56 and a UZI smg (old open bolt model).

Re: Ones favorite Pistol/Rifle
And from the USA, the M4 short and my current carry a Beretta 92F, I didn't like either at first but the M4 is crazy accurate and with the ACOG and grip pod I can hit while standing and advancing head size targets at 300 to 500 meters all day long. The 92F although a 9mm is a rugged and again crazy accurate full size pistol, not something for CCW.
