Can someone also clarify the posts above? From them, I'm assuming that my application can be:
Sect 1 shotgun(s) please.
I'm a member of an NRA-affiliated Rifle Club
Go!
I am not a member of a psg club. I just said i intended to use it for target shooting. If they ask send them link to slug events at gallery rifle / phoenix etc
At least your force seems to be operating sensibly

The problem with S1 SG is you cannot try before you realise if you like it or not.
The only way to try it is to get the variation first.
Crazy, but then I have come to expect that from hastily made, badly thought out and disjointed firearms legislation.

...unless you do as MANY MANY people suggest on many such similar posts on the same topic on here, try it with a S.2 of the same type prior to investing in that model in S.1 form - I have about 3 such S.2 try-guns that will allow a novice to have a go & see what platform they take to

Saddler, I agree there are ways to partake without S1, but it isn't quite the same if you have to reload every 3 shots.
And I was trying to give another 'good reason'.

I know I'll like PSG/Target and, as the above is true, I could use that as a valid reason, right?

You could just turn up at my local club and shoot, no affiliation or joining necessary. The same goes for most UKPSA/F4i clubs AFAIK. You only need to join when you want to compete nationally.
Just find a local club who will let you shoot PSG and tell your force that's where you'll shoot.

Go for it.
You really shouldn't have any problem unless you have a difficult licensing authority.
And good luck.

Maybe but you'll sure learn to reload a LOT quicker.

Note-
the Target Shotgun Intro day at Bisley on the 12th Dec is now full, there are some places still available on the 13th.
more Intro days are planned for the early part of 2016 ,
email
targetshotgun@nra.org.uk for more info.
most FEO's will require you to be a member of a club AND have somewhere to shoot AND have insurance before they issue a variation for an FAC shotgun.
Membership of the NRA is not mandatory though it will give you somewhere to shoot and insurance as well as advice etc
There is no requirement to be a member of the NRA to take part in any NRA shotgun events/competitions/leagues.
