Mike Yardley, ememy within???

#391 Post by Egg on Leggs1 »

A quote direct from his site

"I think military style weapons in civilian hands convey quite the wrong image and one which is potentially damaging to the shooting sports at the moment. The possession of such weapons panders to potentially unhealthy fantasy (and don't tell me it doesn't, I have spoken to/observed too many fantasists). And these guns with large mags and rapid firing mechanisms facilitate amok killing in the wrong hands. With our sports so threatened now, I think it important that we make a clear statement about this even if it is personally inconvenient. I certainly can't defend the use of Armalite and AK clones in the media when our chips are down, just as I cannot defend big bag pheasant shooting or obsessive trophy taking. It also concerns me that Black Gun culture has become such a big deal in the US. It is something that has risen in particular since 9/11. I think it is a negative, dark, trend born of insecurity."

Really tired of hearing what he has to say, especially that he launched his latest tirade on the back of the Paris massacre.

He's the anti-gun lobby's poster boy now.

I'm more amazed that he think's he speaks for other people at this point. Didn't all the burnt bridges and lost revenue from failing to keep his trap shut in the US teach him anything? How long until he's basically a pariah on all but big game hunts in Africa?

Mike Yardley is Persona non grata amongst US shooting publications due to his opinions and going that way here in the UK. I believe he is not welcome in Gun Mart these days.

As for his views on hunting, they are also pretty odd but that is a subject for another time...

In respect of:

"I think military style weapons in civilian hands convey quite the wrong image and one which is potentially damaging to the shooting sports at the moment. The possession of such weapons panders to potentially unhealthy fantasy (and don't tell me it doesn't, I have spoken to/observed too many fantasists)."

OK Mike lets have a think about that then, if that is your view well then these need to go:

As do these:

And these:

They are all military style weapons.

Also these guys are dangerous fantasists! Just look at all their play acting with military paraphernalia, they must be only one mental breakdown away from a massacre going on the way Mike views things:

As for:
And these guns with large mags and rapid firing mechanisms facilitate amok killing in the wrong hands.
Oh really Mike I would be careful going down that line of thinking, Derrick Bird perpetrated his massacre of 12 people with a double barreled shotgun and .22lr bolt action with a 5 shot magazine. Guns are dangerous regardless of capacity and legislating based upon their aesthetics or the details of how they operate does not enhance public safety.

I would rather Mr Yardley not defend our sport as he seems to not have a clue of the offence he causes to those who actually participate in it.

Mike is posting a few comments on ukshootingnews, it makes me want to start smacking my head against a wall wallhead

https://ukshootingnews.wordpress.com/20 ... open-arms/

He kicks off with a semi retraction followed by a whole load of weasel words, when he is called on it he launches into a whole a story of an apparent letter about the horrors going on at some range. He also goes on about high cap mags facilitating mass killings again I say:

Derek Bird - 1 double barrel shot gun - 1 five shot .22lr bolt action - twelve dead

I don't see him calling for the country shotguns or hunting bolt actions to go...

Going back to his "Letter" if it is true what is the betting it is a perfectly normal well run range that has introduced CSR thus increasing membership and it is some old sort not used to the change in membership.

Her must really be at the bottom of the pile if he isn't welcome at Gun Mart as that rag isn't welcomed by most shooters, gun owners.

When Micheal Ryan went on his spree wasn't there something like an average of 16 minutes between shootings?, in that time you could reload a round from scratch, make a brew and drink it, have a pee and a cigarette etc.......but they still banned semi autos!.
