Having been on the wrong end of an Armed Response team, I have to say it is not fun and nerves are rather frayed at the end of the event.

For me it was a couple of us drinking coffee one summers evening at the kitchen table with the back door open when whoosh I have a lot of MiB's (Men in Black) staring at me, running past me, staring at me a bit more and looking a tad stressy.

The guy who seemed to be leading them sat down at the other side of the table, looked a bit odd, told a street Bobby with them to go away rather harshly, he then leant over, helped himself to a cigarette and asked me if I was OK.

I was :D

I don't remember if they stayed for coffee or not as it was many years ago.

I have shooting rights on land that is right next to a golf course...the last thing I do is show myself thru the hedge with a Remington 700 Police.

Common sense prevails...real world...one can have all the tickets about one to prove you have permissions and FAC...but all one needs is a golfer to ring the police and say man with a gun...just inviting trouble...we don't need that, for sure.

Ah, old style coppering!

Did he steal the rest of the pack?
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Nope but he was pretty concerned about the whole affair and apologised profusely. No harm done as far as I was concerned, they were just doing a job.

Rob, would I do what?
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Hi Rob,

I have read your post a couple of times before responding to it. Not sure I agree 100% with it mate. As an ex hobby stalker in jockland, quite used to "walkers" and even dog walkers getting a glimpse of me going about my LEGITIMATE hobby. Why would we be "inviting trouble" going about our legal hobby. Not trying to nit pick in any way, but perhaps we have been a little lax in promoting our chosen sport. Maybe its time for us to be pro-active instead of re-active, what do you think.

Regards

Phil*

There are a few accounts in this neck of the woods of such innocent occasions giving rise to Police being called...and afternoon ruined.

It does not pay to tempt providence, IMHO.

I also inform the firearms lic dept when I am going shooting anywhere near such public places.

Also had a few calls asking...was that you letting one off near X?
