Rob, I think the issue over jacketed rounds is if you shoot lead afterwards, double check in case I'm talking pish!

If you have been shooting jacketed and then decide to switch to lead you need to clean the barrel tp remove copper fouling first.

Hornady 240gn CL Silhouette, 24gn H110, CCI magnum primer, loaded to a COL of 1.600".
Now this is a boomer! It gives just over 1700fps from my 16" Marlin.
I shoot these rarely. 30 quid a box for the bullets! Had them out to 200 and got a fairly consistant 6 inch grouping with . x2.75 scout scope.

There's nothing wrong with the ballard rifling,it's the microgroove rifling that has caused some debate. There a some thought that the microgroove will foul too quickly if using fast softish lead bullets.
I have fox/vermin on my .44 marlin i just use my normal target load.I don't attempt long range shots at them with it.

Microgroove rifling was designed for use with jacketed bullets but actually works very well with lead bullets. I had an older marlin (made in 1976) with microgroove and our club has another with microgroove rifling, both are very accurate probably more accurate than the marlins with ballard rifling that is supposed to be more suitable for the cast bullets that we use.

Do I need expanding on my FAC for those?
