Marlin Lever Action Tests.

My favourite and most used Gun....The Marlin 1894C Carbine in 38/357. The tests are 357 compared to 30/30. Factory Ammo is used,but us reloaders can reproduce most of them.

I fire around 90 to 150 rounds of 38 Sp. a week at a reloading cost of around £5 a hundred. I believe that factory ammo is around £35 a hundred.........Wonder how many use factory as opposed to handloads...

At what range do you shoot 25PDR?

Rob, we get the same crap at our range about scopes but as so many people now shoot at Phoenix, Nationals and Scottish selection shoots the scope boys won, which suits me as a scope is going straight on my 44 Marlin when I get it.

I'm in the Glasgow Shandon Club, we don't have our own range but use the Bearsden Range once a week.It's a well run indoor Range, we usually do PP1 at 25 Yards.We also use Garelochhead- Castlelaw- and Blair Adam- Ranges for centrefire stuff.

This comment about scopes on Lever Actions seems to be quite common, don't see anything wrong with it myself.

Sorry Mike that Photo is part of the story not mine I use open sights, although I've replaced the factory rear sight with an adjustable one with a better blade. I found it in my bits box, I think it was off a 45Auto at one time, much better.

What distances will my 44mag 1894 be accurate at, chaps?

Lead heads or flat nose jacketed?

I've been using mine at 25 metres with tang sight. My eyes are no good at anything further without a scope...hang on I've got a Nikon spare...I'll just check what it is.

The Nikon is a 4-16 X42 and I have also used my Bushnell Trophy Red/Green T Dot scope.

I have a rail...wonder what rings I've got spare.

With some development you should be able to get reasonable accuracy with lead boolits past 100 yds. Jacketed and more specific ammo can take you to 300 yds.

Gwyn Roberts was to be shooting his Marlin in a 100 - 300 yd comp at the Phoenix this weekend. Report will be in Target Shooter in the coming months or so.

100 metres...sounds like a day up Severn Tunnel due, Mike357 and 25PDR.
