It was classic media manipulation for the rest and certain people shifting blame from Central Scotland police, Sim G has some stories about Deputy police Chief McMurdo. I can't remember the exact details but I hope that he can fill them in for me please?Dark Skies wrote:Not necessarily. At the time of the inquiry Prince Philip, during an interview on BBC radio, bravely voiced the opinion that: "... people and not weapons were the danger... If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat - which he could do very easily - I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?... I sympathize desperately with the people of Dunblane, but I’m not altogether convinced that it’s the best system to somehow shift the blame onto a very large and peaceable part of the community in trying to make yourself feel better.”joe wrote: I wouldn't say that the country decided ! But I suppose you are right in a way as had it been put to a vote nationwide, then i suspect the public would have voted overwhelmingly, ban
The tabloids, Snowdrop, the usual lefty TV talking heads all went mental at this however, media polls conducted shortly after the Prince’s statement (BBC, Radio Five, Sky News Poll and GMTV Breakfast Poll) returned results showing that between 68% and 75% of people surveyed agreed with the Prince.

What got up my nose after the ban was the Police licencing departments attitude. When I put my certificate in for variation obviously all the stuff that was originally on it was now illegal. So I asked to vary my certificate and replace all the slots with rifle calibers. There response was we are shocked that you intend to carry on we assumed once the hand guns were banned you would just give up shooting.

Thames Valley Police were actually very good in this respect - at the handing over of my handguns they immediately asked what slots I'd like to have for rifle calibers. They didn't require prompting on this either - they asked me.Alpha1 wrote:What got up my nose after the ban was the Police licencing departments attitude. WHY?????There response was we are shocked that you intend to carry on we assumed once the hand guns were banned you would just give up shooting.
Agreed that a few really silly people gave up shooting in collective acceptance of blame for something they didn't do but the sport is no poorer for their loss is it?

No, some gave up because pistol shooting was their thing and only their thing...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Sim
I seem to recall a few stories on here and elsewhere of folks who gave it all up for the "guilt" reason.
Well they did not give up shooting then did they?? Their sport / hobby of pistol shooting was taken from them by the government - which is altogether different is it not?No, some gave up because pistol shooting was their thing and only their thing...

Wasn't Ariel a character in Shakespeare's The Tempest? Ariel had the power to create a storm at sea and cause a shipwreck, a very suspicious ariel if you ask me.knewmans wrote:Mermaid in a burqabigfathairybiker wrote:What does a "suspicious ariel" look like?
