From what I am reading here there is a woeful lack of firearms training. How can anyone be scared of a holstered pistol - are they scared of a rifle in a box or shotgun in a bag
I know here its not a matter of safety when not at the firing point its more they doint want people wandering around the facility like wannabes. When not at the firing point its left at the safety point or boxed. There are plenty of IPSC training courses here.

Like what wannabe pistol shooters. :p
Y'see decrying folks as wannabe's is exactly what's wrong with this sport....one could level that same tag to people who do IPSC...wanna be pistol combat shooters or whatever. No offence.

I agree that there will be training in Ireland but at the end of the day if one cannot remove a magazine (or empty chambers) and clear a firearm without help something is far wrong. As for being holstered loaded, do not faff about with it and it is perfectly safe.

well I passed the BWSS safety course...

and yes, I am a wannabe, a proud wannabe. I wannabe able to own guns and use them the same as most of the world.

You know, in some countries they even let people walk around in public, you know, with actual people all around them, with a fully loaded gun, holstered.

who would you say had better firearm safety? armed police officers or the typical range user in the UK? APO's are permitted to carry pistols loaded and holstered....

You can remove the mag and clear the firearm without help, and show clear like in all IPSC competition in any country you are shooting. Rules. I doint see shooting pistols any different than shooting any other firearm, so i doint get the wannabe pistol shooters comments. As for being safe yes it is, but you have to abide by the rules of whatever club you are shooting at or competition you are shooting.

I'm going to have to be joining a club in the Bristol / weston area, so It looks like that is going to have to be a consideration. the guy I work with is a member of BDRC and apparently they are very strict on the range, including max 4* of movement of muzzle, so sounds like shooting from a standing position is out too

Give portishead shooting club a shout, the nights I go aren't usually full of BP revolvers or LBRs but I know the Saturday shooters are.

according to their website, with 1.5 year waiting list, and £185 membership fee, got to say, they aren't exactly selling themselves to me, especially as it seems a small range with a total of 10 firing points. The comps they run seem very interesting though, although they don't mention if the can shoot pp1 with nitro pistols.

If that is the club rules then fine but how many of those rules are based on lack of knowledge in the first place.

Good question, is it not IPSC rules show clear to RO at firing point. I doint see it as lack of knowledge not carrying pistols around after shooting cleared and boxed or left at safety area. I for one caint be bothered carrying a pistol around in a holster, if i had to i would sell my CZ 75 and go for something lighter.
