It looks like we may have to all wear Silly Hats and Spurs to have some 3 gun practical - CAS looking like none of these guns will be banned. I could be that wearing Hats and Spurs will identify us as law abiding citizens and not terrorists !!!!!?????? But I draw the line at riding a horse to work - No hitch rail.joe wrote:If that's the case kiss goobye then to straight pull ar-15s, ak verants, fals etc which in will turn kill off practical / shooting with movment comps ! Which the police seem to hate with passion ! Except for themselves ! I not interested in shooting a single shot target rifle ! I might hold off buying some expensive peltor ear defenders until after January then !
They ban list is everything in my safe except for the section 2 over and under
shooting LBR's or sec1 shotguns on someone elses ticket.

Before we all brick ourselves about items being banned,te European Court of Human Rights has ruled that any confiscation of previously lawful property, even on the grounds of public safety and interest, requires compensation for the affected parties.
This trumps national law as the government would have to stand in court to justify its moves.
In short, the U.K. Can't afford to do this, especially after the cost of the handgun ban, let alone the EU, simply put I don't think the EU commission has actually realised how much this would cost them yet.

I've been lead to believe the EU has already budgeted for the compensation bill, which means they have a good idea of A/The total number of guns involved B/ that compensation will be set at a specific amount and will not take into account the actual worth of the gun.
Does the EU legislation specify that the compensation has to be 'fair', or just that SOME has to be paid?

Why do I get the feeling in few months time we will have threads such as ; when is the hand in deadline, what now all my guns taken away, what can I shoot ? Or I've lost x amount of money etc
Ps I bet the police will be encouraged to take any confiscated guns they like for operational reason etc

If I recall, (I'll link the ECHR document later) it has be fair and comparable to the worth of the item being confiscated, I do stress I am not a Lawyer and I did read this a little while ago, but I'm pretty certain this is the case.
The idea that the EU has already budgeted for it

No way could they have done that, nor known the number of these types of guns in the EU, I think this is a simple case of a bureaucrat in the commission trying to flex his/her muscles and throwing out unsubstantiated claims.
UKIP have also done their fair ammount of scaremongering, the whole most MEPs wont bite the hand that feeds them is BS, they are part of a coalition of MEPs who are anti-EU, pretty much all of them will vote to shoot this down. On top of the Eastern European, Baltic and Scandanvian Member States who have almost universally claimed they'll move to block it and if worst comes to worst demand an opt out clause (ala us and Schengen).
This is not to say don't keep writing to MEPs and Commissioners, this is still vital, but I wouldn't be stagnating my purchases yet or throwing out claims that bolt guns such as lee enfields will be banned.

Well the claim the EU had already budgeted for the ban did come from an FLD response and we all know how fond of making stuff up they can be

I am watching the news carefully and hoping that they don't confiscate my guns (probably about £15,000 worth)
On the subject of LBP......
I have a Browning Buckmark LBP conversion and my Father has a GSG 1911 LBP. So we both have LBP on our FAC's. Does that mean that we can LEGALLY shoot each others LBP at the range or is it only the pistol with the specific serial number on my cert that I am allowed to shoot?
Another scenario, say for example there are several people within a club with LBP's and another member decides that they want a LBP but they are not sure which make/model they really want. They get their cert back with a slot for a .22 RF LBP. Could they try for example other members BuckMark, Alpa-Proj, GSG or Taurus LBP? Especially if one of those LBP's is up for sale?

Most guys I know made sure this was not possible during the last hand in. Mine were well & truly "deactivated"

Same same with the ammo handed in; I would not like to have tried to fire some of the stuff I loaded up prior to the confiscation!

There are no set-in-stone rules for LBP/R's and S1 shotguns, given their 'grey' nature in the Firearms Acts and it would require the opinion of an FEO or judge for each instance, depending on the circumstances. The generally accepted 'rules' are that only the person whose FAC has that particular firearm on it can use it, and in your case you could not use your dads LBP and vice versa unless you both got both guns added to your FACs.
'Trying' guns is another shade of grey in a grey area.
