I was also told that after Dunblane he was on one of these Sunday morning chat shows where he kind of mentioned that the handgun ban was a going a bit too far, I remember seeing him, the Female presenter interrupted him saying " remember we weren't intending to discuss that subject"
Well! Seems that he was banished from further BBC appearances until he agreed to toe the BBC anti gun doctrine, which he has agreed on.

He does have this to say:
"Just to be clear... I don't think we need more gun control in the British context - indeed, I think some controls could and should be relaxed here. I would like, for example, to see .22 pistols back in clubs, and I think the distinction between expanding and non-expanding ammunition merely wastes time. I could continue. My comments here, though, are for an international audience and I am trying to stimulate reasoned debate in an area where I think there is beginning to be far"
TBH - it seems like he's flip flopping from one position to another, maybe due to the grief he's getting, maybe to drum up coverage for his own PR - either way, he doesn't come accross to me as someone who's views I respect.

He is flip flopping, however, his main attitude is that anything remotely 'tactical' or 'military' looking has no role in shooting sports and if it were to be banned would be no great loss (he actually said this!)

You don't have to join under your real name Sim. Make fun of him by you know.... showing him he's an arrogant arse wipe and great at burning bridges. I had no idea about the Charlie Hebdo thing or the gigs he got sacked from US magazines from. He seems to be going out of his way to make himself unemployable.

Im sorry to bang on about this "unity" concept again but Mikes attitude is something we should have stamped out long ago. I don't think there is anyone here per se but this attitude that FClass or Pheasant or Deer Stalking is somehow better than IPSC or Service rifle is crazy. The holier than thou and prepared to sacrifice your gun to save mine attitude was what we saw after Hungerford and Dunblane.
We are all shooters first and foremost. The anti's don't give a hoot about our disciplines. They want our guns gone.
"Unity" there you go DavefirearmsUK I've ended up banging your drum after all.
