As far as joining the NRA is concerned, it's their ball and they can play the game any way they want to! That doesn't mean to say you have to like it however. I guess that I'm a bit like you in that respect in that I don't really see the need for repetition etc.

As for Bisley (where you will reap the main benefits of NRA membership), I much prefer to stay away from the place anyway. On my one and only visit to the place I was totally underwhelmed. Perhaps I was expecting too much but one session behind the butts on marking duty soon put that image in perspective. The butts area along the length of the line was a complete and utter mess and it reminded me of a badly-managed waste recycling plant. Target frames were literally falling apart and there was garbage everywhere. Fast forward to the butts at Altcar (for example) where you could almost eat your dinner off the ground.

From my perspective, if Bisley were to close tomorrow it would make little difference to me in terms of finding a place to shoot as I am well-served by ranges at Altcar, Warcop and Diggle. I do appreciate however, that not everyone is in this position and for a large number of the southern lads, Bisley may be their main or only realistic option as far as access to firing ranges etc is concerned.

Every shooter to his own I guess but Bisley / NRA membership for me ...? Not at the moment thanks!

Badger, stop being awkward and fill in the forms. The paperwork takes 5 mins to complete, send the originals of FAC etc as I did. No hassle and all your problems solved. Apart from your TB and ongoing cull!

I lived and shot in Lancashire for many years, using Altcar and Diggle. Never heard of Warcop. The big thrill every year was the annual trip to Bisley. Nothing like it, never will be. The differences of opinion here stem from the different types of shooting. Some of you book ranges either individually or on club shooting days, but for me, Bisley is about competitive shooting---- the old NPA meeting, the Historic Arms meeting and the Trafalgar. There simply isn't anything like the big Bisley meetings at the other venues.

Just be thankful the hoops aren't steel wire with one-way slips ...

Well if you were paying a fee (ie as a full member) then there would be no problem.

Your club are paying a fee and they don't have a problem.

I didn't really want to say this but I am sure others are thinking it too but why should a non-NRA member have the same rights as someone who pays their full NRA membership?

The NRA does not exist to serve people who don't join - it serves your club and we have pointed out how you can shoot as part of your club. You cannot shoot as an individual as you are not an individual member.

We tried to join the NRA a week or so ago exactly so we could attend as an individual member, and of course support this esteemed organisation in its fight to safeguard our sport, but the paperwork was just too much for us to cope with.
