There is no opportunity to maintain opposition to the whole sorry principle.
NOT if/when they read some of my answers...
Q.1 Do you agree with the proposed types of weapons to be covered by the new regime?
"No, I do not agree at all"
Q.2 Should any other weapons be covered?
"None at all"
Q.3 Is there any type of air weapon ammunition which should be covered?
"None at all; besides, airgun "ammunition" is a projectile"
Q.4 Are there other forms of air weapon use which should be considered as “legitimate”?
"Informal target practice "plinking", collecting, passing interest, ornamental use"
Q.5 Do you agree that greater restrictions should be placed on where air weapon owners can shoot?
"No, not at all; the current restrictions IF ENFORCED are enough
Q.6 Do you agree with these proposals for the application process?
"No, the process will be time consuming & have no effect on criminal use"
Q.7 Do you think there are other issues we should consider around the application process?
"Make the application the same as other licences - over the counter at the Post Office; the same as Shotgun Certificates pre-1968"
Q.8 Do you agree that there should be a lower age limit of 18 for those seeking an air weapon certificate, and that use by those younger than 18 should be appropriately supervised by a licensed adult?
"No. Lower limit to 16. Under that age supervised by a RESPONSIBLE adult - not necesarily a licensed one!"
Q.9 Do you agree that a fee should be charged for each air weapons application, whether successful or not?
"No. "
Q.10 Do you have a view on an appropriate fee to be charged for new or renewed applications?
"Free issue. YOU want airguns on license, YOU cover the costs"
Q.11 Do you agree with the proposed levels of checks on applicants for a visitor’s permit?
"No. Licence should be automatic free issue on application"
Q.12 Do you agree with the proposal to adopt a system of time-limited visitor permits and do you agree with the proposed duration of such permits?
"No. Lifetime issue, no expiration"
Q.13 Do you agree that a separate, longer term permit should be available to competition shooters and other regular visitors?
"ALL permits should be lifetime issue"
Q.14 Do you agree that there should be an appropriate hand in period for currently held weapons, in advance of the new legislation taking effect?
"NO. ANY airguns that are no longer used & for which the owners have no further need should be ONLY handed in on receipt of FULL compensation of UK market value of said item(s). Otherwise, a free licence should be issued."
Q.15 Do you agree that it should be a matter for the police and prosecution services to take a view on air weapons handed in at a later date?
"No. Publicity MUST be made available that shows that any unwanted airgun CAN be legally surrendered to an RFD OR be legally removed from Scotland to other parts of the UK."
Q.16 Do you agree that it should be open to the police to issue a permit to allow the person to deal with “forgotten” air weapons or, in appropriate cases, to apply for an air weapons certificate?
"Permits MUST be made retrospective in such cases."
Q.17 Do you agree that penalties should be set at the same level as for shotgun offences?
"No. Why stop there? Make the guilty wear a nice yellow star on their clothes. Consider some way to have those found guilty transported to the colonies. Has anyone suggested public clogging as a possible sentence?"
Q.18 How else might the message be spread?
"A leaflet sent to EVERY householder in the UK. UK-wide TV/radio/printed media propaganda campaign. Posters in ALL Scottish libraries & Post Offices. School visits to ALL schools in Scotland."
