Trapdoors depend on the calibre as do all guns in relation to being section 1 or not.

So a 50-70 Trapdoor is obsolete section 58 a 45-70 is FAC section 1.

I have two 50-70s and a 45-70. I am very fond of the 50-70 cartridge.

About the cavalry carbine, there was one for sale over here on the Gunbroker site with a very detailed description and photos . The bid on that one got up to $2000 but the reserve wasn't met.

Here's the link to that carbine I mentioned yesterday it is rather interesting. I wasn't able to post the link at the time, many thanks to Ovenpaa and Christel for taking care of the problem.

It reminded me that another rifle I would like to own is one of the Martini Henry cadet rifles made for the Western Australian Govt. Maybe one day. fingerscrossed
I've got this one marked for NSW, CMF. I shoot .32 longs through it and it is a tack driver at 50 yds. However I do not have a Lee Enfield cavalry carbine! They are around here though along with the Irish Constabulary carbines but they're pricey, last carbine I saw was in the $900 range.

Very nice. :good: I've only seen one WA cadet MH for sale, but unfortunately I didn't have the cash available. :cool2:

You're lucky that you've got Cavalry Carbines available, over here I've only seen deactivated ones.

Bill Pink at historic guns has got a private purchase carbine for sale on his site (he has called it a cavalry carbine but it is of course an artillery carbine) which he is asking £2,500.00 for. I have just taken in a very nice Martini-Metford artillery carbine which is pictured in the full-bore rifles page on my site, thedevizesgunsmith.co.uk

The one Bill has looks to be a stunner based on the pictures, he is close to me a well.

You are right it does - and private purchase carbines are relatively rare as most officers bought Lee-Speed sporters instead, though perhaps NCO's and volunteer groups may have been attracted by the "cheaper" carbines in the day, ether way very few ever appear on the market

Afternoon all,

I know this is an old thread, but this is the first good Carbine I have seen in a very long while...got to be almost unique

On my regular Monday trip around tinter web I came across this rarest of rare in Enfield collecting, a complete and mint bored .303 Lee Enfield Carbine Mk1 with matching numbers!!!!

Rare as hens teeth in shot out wall hanging condition...I am very sorely tempted indeed chaps!

I did spot it a while ago, nice rifle but an outrageous price.
