I don't care if the ban wouldn't effect the UK in the slightest. This is still nonsense that needs to be opposed.

Unfortunately the UK would most definitely be affected if the proposals are implemented as currently written. We stand a very good chance of losing the types of semi-automatic firearm, chambered in .22LR, which are commonly used in a variety of gallery rifle and mini rifle competitions.

These issues need to be discussed in detail by us, the shooting community, and it's from us that the necessary opposition is going to come.

Please don't misinterpret my rebuttal of the claims that UK spec. straight-pulls are on the chopping block as a sign that I do not vehemently object to the EC's proposals. As I originally posted back in December, I urge all those members of this forum who are concerned to do the following:

The discussion starts at approximately 1:21:57. There was dissent from multiple representatives, but to say that the proposals where overwhelmingly rejected would be an exaggeration. There was both criticism and support from the various representatives present. The EC spokesman appeared flustered at points, seemingly exasperated that the proposals were seeing opposition. He also made some glaringly incorrect technical statements regarding firearms. At 2:27:38 he claims:

“you can still use…semi automatic, long firearms who’s magazine and chamber can together hold more than three rounds. 3 rounds is 31 bullets! Those kind of weapons are not affected by the commission’s proposals. So sport shooters are able to continue to do it…What we prohibit are semi automatic weapons which resemble an automatic mechanism.”

He obviously knows absolutely nothing about how firearms operate, and his incompetence highlights how ignorant the EC is on this issue. Yet they still propose sweeping legislation that would have a hugely detrimental effect upon lawful sports shooters across the EU.
