Most here are happy with a pistol holstered at the firing point, but doint like people wandering around the place with a holstered pistol.So what i'm asking is, even if the gun was totally unloaded, are any clubs going to be happy with it in a holster?

Right I have googled and the chap might have said IPSC Holster Proficient, which seems to be an official IPSC course.
Re: Guns and Holsters
Pre 1997, the vast amount of holsters available would sometimes generate more conversation than the race guns carried in them!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Of that I am sure!Sim G wrote:Pre 1997, the vast amount of holsters available would sometimes generate more conversation than the race guns carried in them!
I think my personal feelings on this would be as such;
It's been so long now since the handgun ban that as has been pointed out it is no longer common place to see holsters. Also, and more importantly, it is completely possible, and I would dare say common, that people can now get LBP/LBR without having ever been taught safe manipulations and handling, nevermind holster etiquette and good procedures.
Whilst back in the day when wearing pistols, the vast majority of any club members would have known should anyone have been doing something they shouldn't, wearing something wrongly, or otherwise doing something dangerous, I dare say many of these members are no longer shooting and we have a new breed of shooters.
The IPSC Holster Course sounds like a darn good benchmark and requirement for any member wishing to wear a holster, specifically for those who were not shooting pre-ban and might be wishing to shoot on a range that is not commonly used (although cleared) for that discipline.

That does not surprise, nor shock me, when it comes to you, Sir....dromia wrote:I used to carry my Webley hung round my neck on a bit of binder twine.

Exactly.Properly used, a holster is a safety device:
From what I am reading here there is a woeful lack of firearms training. How can anyone be scared of a holstered pistol - are they scared of a rifle in a box or shotgun in a bag???
Would be a better idea if you all agreed a set of rules and that was that - the fluctuations from club to club cannot help. Provided you don't faff about with the gun when it is holstered it's perfectly safe.

I agree a holster is a safety device. It's the first part of what you quoted that concerns me where people with next to no training with a firearm - of this type (requiring holster) - can get hold of one and behave accordingly.Chuck wrote:Exactly.Properly used, a holster is a safety device:

I know here its not a matter of safety when not at the firing point its more they doint want people wandering around the facility like wannabes. When not at the firing point its left at the safety point or boxed. There are plenty of IPSC training courses here.From what I am reading here there is a woeful lack of firearms training.
