[quote="barney57 Cor,, aint seen of them for years,,,,we used to have the old spud guns aswell,, firing potatoe pellets at each other,,,those were the days,, did that now and you would have an armed response unit there in minutes,,,,where has all the fun of being a kid and growing up gone??[/quote] Yep I had a couple of spud guns, maximum range of six feet if you were lucky. I also had a blank firing starting pistol in .22 similar to the red one in the picture.

Dangerous piece of kit, you could have someones eye out with one of them, H&S advice of today I would imagine.
I wonder how many lbs of spuds (cheap ammo) we went through in the good old days. Did any one try turnip for ammo.? A wee bit hard if I remember correctly.

Did anyone else have the spud gun shaped like a "cowboy gun", when the cylinder swung out and the "cartrigde" was what was used at one end to did out the piece of spud and one of the caps from a roll was put on the other end? The pressure from the cap going bang would send the "spud" a fair old distance!
No doubt a S5 firearm these days.....

I'm pretty sure I had one of those too Sim although don't remember that much about it. One that really sticks in my mind was probably a few years later and was a corker of a toy - a broomhandle Mauser pistol, plastic thing but pretty much life size and it took plastic cartridges which each had a big plastic waisted pellet loaded into them. You then loaded the rounds into a fairly realistic detachable mag and the whole thing worked like a low powered air pistol. Not powerful but surprisingly accurate up to a few yards, we had hours of fun with it.
