Apparently Tikka have produced a new mag for the CTR that should be a bit cheaper and maybe get over some issues some have had with the TGR mag coming loose with really hot 308 loads. I understand there is an easy fix for the loose mag problem so not a disaster anyway. I have a CTR IN .308 on order so fingers crossed.

The new Ruger Precision is only just over your budget and ticks all your boxes.

Another +1 for the Tikka T3 :good:

If you're looking at the CTR, why not do what a load of the US purchasers have done: get the CTR, add a bottom metal that uses AI mags and sell the stock mag to a TRG owner to cover the cost!

Heavy barreled rem 700 shortened to 20" and bottom metal to suit AICS mags , this is my go to rifle I've just had it re-barrelled at 22"

You can get endless go faster options for the 700 so you can modify it to suit you as funds are available ?

I just did quite well in the RBL match with mine , certainly didn't feel under equipped ?

Remember if you want triggers or mounting options or different stocks then your hard pressed to see past the 700 for prions and choice !

tackb - the new Ruger Precision would still be cheaper - and it's got all the 'endless go faster options' as standard.

I have a Howa 1500 in 308, 24" heavy barrel, laminate thumbhole stock. Had it 6 months, I cannot fault it so far. It is heavy....would not want to drag it around a field all day. Groups well with just about anything....not shot it past 200 yards yet. Lovely trigger straight from the box...cost £750 new. From what I read, Howa make the Weatherby Vanguard and used to make a copy of the Tikka...go back far enough and I believe they made the Arisaka!

There's a Howa in a fancy free float stock at Wentworth sporting for £400 odd, stainless, sported barrel,.308. For that money you could spend extra on a good scope!

Tikka T3 CTR gets my vote! Had one for a couple of months now and I love it. Easy sub MOA with only half decent factory ammo but at over 6 ft I do find the LOP a bit short. Mine has the adjustable cheek riser, stainless finish and single set trigger all for £1100 ! Bargain.

There is another choice York guns are starting to import that exactly meets all your required specs:

20" fluted, threaded bull barrel
Comes with a 10 round magazine and is compatible with the M1A/M14 and AR10 type magazines
Weighs 8lb

Best of all it comes under your budget at a very agreeable £825, at that price you will have some money left over to invest towards the optics.
