I've got lawyers and planning consultants all over this and the response from them has been simple, dont get involved, guns are such that those who dont want them will never change their mind, I offered to all the neighbours to come down to Bisley at my expense to hear what a range could sound like and not one accepted, its not about whats right or wrong its simply that shooting to them is one step above killing someone, utterly wrong and utterly sad at the same time.

So you have already been shooting shotguns on site Thorney?! That you are doing that already shows the real issue here...

I know what I would rather stand beside with no ear protection when it comes to a .22lr vs a 12 bore!

So it was rejected based upon "It didn't look pretty"?!

As I understood it if it is visible from a property you don't have a right to a view???? What angle are they taking in respect of that one?

You have my sympathy the sheer venom that can be expressed by local nimbies can be staggering sometimes!

We've been running events with shotguns and .22 for years, not a single complaint. I shoot on site almost daily, again not a single complaint, we put planning in and suddenly its a bad day in Kabul here. Its tempting to get angry, especially when we are walking our dog in the woods I've been abused personally but you have to just the other cheek.

There is a caveat to that of course.

A local gun club (I wont name it, not fair) decided not to tell their members about the proposed new range in case their support for it 'put pressure on people not to renew their membership with us' in other words they put their own club revenue above the interests of the members. I cant blame them of course if thats their view and was a reason why I havent approached any other club for their support or otherwise but to have other shooters not support such an application over fears of their own revenue is a bit depressing.

So I suppose the question is out of curiosity but did you look into the practicalities of an underground tunnel range? Expensive no doubt and drainage must be a b@gger but I am curious...

On a side note I have heard it can be horrendous living next to a chicken farm so their complaints about your development is rather asinine!

We have a Roman Road around here somewhere, I'm not allowed to dig down more than 1m

Awaiting a site visit as part of the appeal. It needs a senior appeal officer (whatever that is) and there are only so many in the country. Been a truly frustrating experience, no wonder most people give up.

brilliant racing and shooting all at one venue, why not we are looking at doing a range at Snetterton :)
