You know my feelings on this D, the bloody prices don't need to be this high.

Its a vicious circle, if the prices were more sensible, we would buy more and shoot more.

I think it is a particularly cynical route to take with the current problems we have courtesy of the septics!! :cool2:

I remember some time back being given a copy of a gun trade mag where some of the manufacturers were all displaying s*** eating grins over the fact that the VCR bill had forced up the prices they could now charge as the internet houses could no longer sell their wares.

I felt quite betrayed to be honest, I had spent a small fortune supporting these tossers and they just want to screw us for every thing they can.

I sold my Daystate PDQ (which in my opinion was/is the worst value for money I ever purchased).

A certain nob head (didn't like him before the advert as it goes) was getting super lathered up over some chunk of Chinese s*** that allowed nearly a 300% mark up....the very guns that the chavs were buying to shoot old ladies with because they were cheap...

Don't get me wrong, there is making a living, and exploiting a situation to the detriment of the sport for a short term gain.

The problem is that with competitive shooting, if your rifle just works best with the expensive brand, you are stuffed really

Maggot, we see it a lot, it makes us cringe because it is our colleagues within the gun trade doing this and they make the gun trade look bad.

There is a company over here who used to regularly sell on Gunbroker.com and in the past they did pretty good business. However last year when primers were all but impossible to get this company upped their prices and wanted $90 for a thousand primers. Now I understand the supply and demand thing but these people were ripping off the very people they depend upon for their bread and butter.

What they did really annoyed shooters here and word soon got around on the shooting forums and by word of mouth and folks said they would never buy from them again. I read back in June that said company went bust and had closed it's doors. So the thing to do is keep your wallet closed and go elsewhere, boycott the rip off merchants and don't ever buy from them again no matter how desperate things get. The rest will soon get the message when the see a fellow retailer going belly up because they have been boycotted by the shooters themselves..

Wandered in a tiny dealers. One running from his home who had a couple of thousand magnum primers collecting dust. It seems someone ordered them and never returned to buy them. So I'm 2000 rounds up, at £30 a 1000 and have found a new dealer.
He had shelves of Vhit powder, Hornady bullets and old Winchester soft point rounds so I'll definitely be back.

There is a way to get round that we have gun dealers here on fullbore UK.
We also have a lot of members we could do a group buy of primers.
I am sure if we all committed to buying a reasonable amount of primers one of them could make a bulk purchase and save us some money.

Nice idea but distribution may be a problem? Any bulk savings could be negated by 'postage' cost.

Unless we all meet up at the Phoenix to collect goodies!!

Depending on the component the savings could be small as the margins on things like primers are minimal, retailers are also held hostage to the importers/wholesalers, their prices go up so the prices on the shelves go up.

it also depends on the business model being used, when prices are going up regularly more and more people will be using the sell at the price you will have to buy your next lot of stock in rather than the actual price you bought your stock in at to maintain the slim margins.

I'm sure that some people are profiteering from the situation however it isn't necessarily as simple as it may seem.

Market forces suggest that when things are in short supply prices will go up.

For example I'm currently selling primers (CCI/Federal) at £34/1000 with transport that is a mark up of under 8%. Then there is contribution to overheads off that and the fact that the next batch of primers I buy in will cost more than the last lot then the profit on primers has all but gone. Five quid odd of that £34 has gone in VAT straight away.

My primer prices have gone up £4/1000 since last year and I'm making less money per 1000.

For the small business like me there is very little money in components and I only stock them as a service to my regular customers not as profit making activity. I have no wish to handle the volumes you would need to to turn a reasonable pound on components to do that then your overheads would increase dramatically as well.

However I cannot supply things at a loss either so prices have to go up to avoid that
