Re: Seeking Ideas for F Class Meeting Format and COF

#11 Post by rox »

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I’ve distilled the COF into four options, which are detailed below with daily and total round counts. The numbers in brackets are the number shooting to a target (i.e. pairs or threes).

Option 1: Original unmodified format.
Option 2: Increase long range from 2+15's to 2+20's.
Option 3: Increase 2+7’s to 2+10’s, and 2+10’s to 2+15’s.
Option 4: Combines Option 2 and Option 3.

My concern is the effect the large round count will have on full entries – Option 1 is already fairly heavy before any modification. Which format would you prefer, assuming you were making a full entry to a meeting early in the season? Assume that Options 1 and 2 will be slightly cheaper, due to some shoots being squadded in threes rather than all in pairs.

Code: Select all

Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4

Day 1 pm (2) Day 1 pm (2) Day 1 pm (2) Day 1 pm (2)
2 + 15 @ 300x 2 + 15 @ 300x 2 + 15 @ 300x 2 + 15 @ 300x
2 + 15 @ 600x 2 + 15 @ 600x 2 + 15 @ 600x 2 + 15 @ 600x

Day 2 am (3) Day 2 am (3) Day 2 am (2) Day 2 am (2)

2 + 7 @ 500x 2 + 7 @ 500x 2 + 10 @ 500x 2 + 10 @ 500x
2 + 7 @ 600x 2 + 7 @ 600x 2 + 10 @ 600x 2 + 10 @ 600x

Thanks Dave. I did consider that, and although it's not actually a 'staged' competition, it didn't feel quite right to have the Stage II an exact duplicate of Stage I. Another factor is that light will come into play, and so one of the short range sessions will need to be finished in less time than the other. That gives me an idea. I suppose one stage could be 2 + 10's in threes, and the other one 2 + 10's in pairs. That might just be the answer!

Cheers!

Extrapolating the Dave’s suggestion for option 5, with the 2+7’s extended to 2+10’s shot in threes, option 6 is the same but with long range 2 + 20’s. I love it when a plan comes together!

Option 1: Original unmodified format.
Option 2: Increase long range from 2+15's to 2+20's.
Option 3: Increase 2+7’s to 2+10’s, and 2+10’s to 2+15’s.
Option 4: Combines Option 2 and Option 3.
Option 5: Increase 2+7’s to 2+10’s (squadded in threes)
Option 6: As option 5 plus 2+20’s at long range.

Code: Select all

Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4 Option 5 Option 6

I dithered over the 2+20 for the last day and then went for the 2+15 however the 2+20 does make it a bit more appealing.

Is this three separate competitions with an aggregate or a single competition set over three days and is it open to TR, MR & F Class? One final point, the F/TR shooters hate getting lumped in with the F Open shooters for a combined F Class, better to have them as seperate classes.

I'm proposing separate classes for F Open and F/TR, with separate results and prizes but the two F classes may be mixed on the point (I'm advised by GBFCA that this is perfectly OK - comments?). Therefore there are essentially separate F Open, F/TR and TR meetings running alongside each other (no MR). It's a well established meeting which I'm looking to make as good as it can be for F Class shooters. We already have international F/TR interest.

The actual events are as follows - there will be results and prizes for each of these in each of the three classes:

Comp 1: 2+15 @ 300x Day 1
Comp 2: 2+15 @ 600x Day 1
Comp 3: 2+?? @ 300x/500x/600x Day 2
Comp 4: 2+?? @ 300x/500x/600x Day 2
Comp 5: 2+?? @ 900x Day 3
Comp 6: 2+?? @ 1000x Day 3
Short Range Agg - total score in comps 1, 2, 3 & 4
Long Range Agg - total score in comps 5 & 6
Grand Agg - total score in comps 1 to 6

It sounds like a winning combination :good:

Mixing F/TR & F Open at the firing point, and I would be more than happy to share a target with a TR shooter however I suspect I would be found out eventually

My minor concerns

A) the timings! will you have time for three distances?? I suppose depending on the numbers of entries/details and firing points.
B) lots of lugging heavy rests & rifles between firing points (some may struggle)
c) shooting in threes can be confusing, I personally prefer twos

As for COF I like option 5, shooting mixed disciplines on the point isnt really a problem as it's really a case of keeping track of the scores.

I don't think this will be a problem. It's a very well practiced 2-detail format that is run numerous times during the year in many different meetings. F Class will almost always complete a similar COF quicker than TR, so if TR can get through F can easily.
20series wrote:B) lots of lugging heavy rests & rifles between firing points (some may struggle)
I will be requesting vehicle friendly range positioning e.g. for access to 300x via Hobsons.
20series wrote:c) shooting in threes can be confusing, I personally prefer twos
I think having one shoot in threes helps to solve the problem of getting rid of the 2+7's while maintaining a difference between the morning and afternoon shoots and solving the daylight problem. If you do find it confusing then by the end of the match you'll be an expert. It really isn't too hard.
