Its normal fine powder-not Swiss. They did explain that Swiss is much more pokey, but also more expensive.Doz wrote: Depends on the powder - 20 grains sounds about right unless it's Swiss powder then you could try a bit less. I only use 15 grains of Swiss no.2 in my 44's for 20-25yds (but then I am a notorius tighta**s!) however have had to use up to 25 grains of other stuff on the odd occasions when I've run out of Swiss.
When i bought it the shop had sold out of powder thingies, but what i did have here at home are small plastic vials so i've weighed out 20 grains into each so i just have to pour each into the cylinder.I have also looked on the web and 30 grains is also a load people use so i've made 6 at this as an experiment.Im not worried about using more than is actually necessary-i just like a big boom.

Re: 44 pistol
Just remembered...I used to use a flask...so what ever that measured out at...that's what it got.
In my days rumour had it that you would be hard pushed to load a revolver with too much BP...but I don't think there was any reason to put that to the test.
They were surprisingly accurate loaded from flask...you know...with the length of tube on the top and cut off... regulating roughly what the charge was.
And of course big bang and loads of smoke.

Well...i shot it this morning and all went good!
Had a few misfires where i hadnt pushed the caps onto the nipples quite enough, but i was a bit nervous about shoving them on too hard incase one went off accidently.Got given several hundred caps by another member for nothing too!
By the end i was literally covered in all manner of crap along with everything i had on bench,my left hand was really greasy from the lard, but it was fun.Cleaning the thing was an epic voyage though-i removed the wood and stuck it in hot soapy water then scrubbed all the muck out.
Big difference with accuracy in the grainage though.20 grains is perfect, but 30 pushes it about 12" higher and creates huge amounts of smoke.
