44 pistol

#1 Post by Steve »

Went to my local shop for reloading gear, but they'd run of what i wanted out so took a look round and eventually walked out with another gun instead.I still had a 44 BP pistol slot to fill and there was a cheap Uberti for sale at £100 so decided it was worth a punt.Bought a tub of black powder too (i do have the relevant licences) plus caps and cleaning brush. They'd run out of balls too,but made a quick phone call to a friend who casts his own and popped round there with some lead to make some (i used to be a roofer and have a roll of it in shed).

Gonna try it out tommorrow.

Now, if only we were allowed to have a few spare cylinders I'd shoot mine more often ;)

It is fun 'though even with only one cylinder.

Shot one for years Steve...they are great fun...but clean it thoroughly every time you use it, without delay.

Yep,i know about the cleaning and that it should be done ASAP.

I was chatting to the guy at the shop as he's a BP shooter too and he recomended 20 grains.Would you agree with this? BP pistols are a new thing for me so im on a learning curve.

No record of how much BP I used to use...it was back in the 70s.

I'm off to a BP comp tomorrow, so much fun.

Good purchase.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Depends on the powder - 20 grains sounds about right unless it's Swiss powder then you could try a bit less. I only use 15 grains of Swiss no.2 in my 44's for 20-25yds (but then I am a notorius tighta**s!) however have had to use up to 25 grains of other stuff on the odd occasions when I've run out of Swiss.

100 quid! What a bargain for a nice Uberti Remington! They'll never replace my cartridge pistols, but they are a hoot to shoot!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!
