Yes it needs a lot more than that - I signed one recently about 'by-catch' (see 'fish fight' campaign) which has finally made it to being taken seriously both in the commons and in Europe...but not until it had more than 500 000 signatures. The severel thousand 'shooters' in the UK will not be enough. Some how the 'non-shooting' public needs to be convinced of the value of olympic medals, and get them signing aswell.....

There are over 715,000 certificates on issue, however even if everyone has both FAC and SGC, (which they don't) that would still be 357,500 people who you'd THINK would sign . . . Sadly the shooting community has been shattered into dozens of different sections and the 'i'm-alright-jackism' is alive and well. Another forum i go on has dozens of outspoken anti-pistol members who are either too arrogant/ignorant to see how other forms of shooting ebing banned/restricted affects them

Added to that the fact that the HAC after Cumbria only recieved 900ish responses for 715,000 certificates, its pi$$ing in the wind at best - although that hasn't stopped me signing it!

That really doesn't help :x

Blackstuff: I've always been a rifle shooter, but I'll do what I can to see target pistols legalised...if only to stop the old boys at the club moaning every week

Seriously though - you said there were some 'anti pistol' people on another forum - what reasons do they have for not allowing target (as in designed for an olympic course of fire) pistols for those that can prove that they train and compete (even if it's only at club level)???

Highly unlikely. Mo Molam is the one that decided it wouldn't happen in Ulster. Since then, has any FAC holder gone "postal" with their pistol? And, there are an awful lot of pistols on FAC in the Province that are solely as PPWs.

GCN and in particular Marshall-Andrews gave NI some attention a few years back. She obviously thought the time was right as the Good Friday agreement was well entrenched. Even then, she achieved nothing.

What forum is that? Sounds like a place for a bit of "trolling"!!

The HAC may only have recieved 900 and odd submissions, but, by HAC standards, that was massive! They rarely receive evidence into double figures......

Part correct. The Conservatives did instigate the ban of "large" caliber, but rimfire were to stay on S1. The ban on small bore pistols was one of Blairs first deeds as Prime Minister.

As for leopards not changing their spots, I wouldn't be so hasty to make such a judgement. After Ryan and Hamilton, I lost guns. In an absolute $hit storm of media branding and politician condeming, I lost my possessions and a big chunk of my sport. When Bird ran amok, I was mentally figuring what I was going to lose now.....

Nowt as of yet. Cameron and other politicians, even including Diane Abbott, guarded against a knee jerk reaction. We've even had the Chair of the HAC, Vaz, who everyone thought would do our legs, take an almost diametrically opposed view than the one anticipated! Even ACPO, as opposed to calling for tighter, have even suggested certain things go from S5 to S1....

Who ever would have thought it. Of course, you glass may always be half empty.

Pigeon watch. There is a band of utter to$$-pots on there mainly members of the self-named 'Essex Mafia' Who claim anyone interested in pistols is a Ryan/Hamliton type 'walt'. They fail to see the irony of using a military term describing someone who is wannabe military, when they themselves haven't served

They claim that anything to do with pistols harms the overall image of shooting and hence shouldn't be encouraged. This despite the majority of them with that view are avid game/pest hunters but don't see that posting pictures of them standing over a blown to bits fox may cause negative opinions from an uneducated public
