That would the Type 30 and 38 rifles in 6.5x50 that were surplus after the RN had finished with them.

I wonder what happened to them after they discovered they could not easily source ammunition :)

That would be easier no doubt considering how much metal the M1917 action has but rather defeats the point of the idea which is a No.4 but with an interim rimless .303 round the 7.7x58 Arisaka being closest to that.
