Personally, Varget is the last powder I would choose these days purely because of availability. My local shop won't even "stock" it now because of the erratic a availability.
H4198, 30gns and a 405gn commercial cast bullet is a nice plinking load out to 150 to 200. Will give around 1400fps. Want to ramp it up to the next load band, Hodgdons Benchmark which will also work very nicely in your .303.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I gave up on the US branded powders years ago due to erratic availability and switched to Vihtavuori powders. I lost nothing in performance and in many cases gained, I load for many (too many) calibres from 22 Hornet to 577 Snider and points in between.
As I said earlier it is the burning rate not the label that makes a powder suitable.

Makes perfect sense and I'm in complete agreement given that's an ethos I adopt as well.... But, given the inexperience/confidence of the OP, specific powders may prove useful in the first instance.
Vhit 120 and 133 are in the burn rate of 4198 and Benchmark, but Vhit data does not favour the load the OP is looking for. I still reckon published data is the way forward for novices.

One powder for multiple calibres especially ones as different as 45-70 and 303 will always lead to compromise with, one or both.
