I see our shooting organisations are party to this, they have been manning up and bending over to receive another shafting on our behalf.

Be afraid, be very afraid about loosing our firearms as we have no one fighting on our behalf.

If it is NOT law then how can they enforce this - more abuse of powers??

If it IS against the law as written then the various associations should be all over it, and hard.

I can see why the US gun owners don't want a certfication system, they see what's happened to gun owners in the motherland and see this crap !
They are already into this I believe via Obummacare - using doctors and medical records as a way of removing firearms from people against their 2nd Ammendment rights..

OK nutters have to be kept away from guns I agree - but this will be a system of guilty until you prove otherwise..just be VERY careful what you see the doc for and what you say!

If a medical report is needed, who will pay?
Also noticed this on the above document.

During the application process
• Where a medical report is needed because the applicant has declared a medical condition
on the application form – the applicant will pay the fee.

Don't see why they should, plod want it they should pay for it - it would stop any spurious report seeking.

No doubt the BMA will set an "appropriate" fee............the last diving med. cert. I got cost me £60, but at least a physical examination went with it.
It appears that all the GP has to do in this case is check the record.

My immediate thought:

"What an excellent way to dissuade people that may need help or feel they might have something wrong with them from approaching their doctor.'

For years I've believed that only a fool would go to their GP to discuss possible mental issues because it won't be long before the government are flogging their "anonomized" (yeah, right) records off to insurance companies, employers, and the like to capitalize on their assets, I mean "citizens". Now that the police will have access if you're a firearm owner it makes it even more unlikely people will seek help - they'll just soldier on unsupported.

The
new system does not apply to Northern Ireland which has
separate firearms legislation and processes.

The law of unintended consequences! Maybe your car, and life insurance company will come back to you if they find you are now enagaged in a "dangerous hobby or pastime" with all this info being flogged off. SO much for Data Protection eh!
