so what do clubs have that enable me to let another shooter shoot my rifle? (as my rifle is not on the club ticket)/quote]
Home Office approval. It is one of the advantages of a club having H.O. approval.

Re: shooting LBR's or sec1 shotguns on someone elses ticket.
EDIT - Sim G's post
Wityh regard to the last paragraph, when i got an LBR soon after the Taurus ones were released i got such a note. I don't think they are still issued, i certainly didn't get one with my recent variation for an LBP. I did however get one with my VZ58 MARS variation, however it was so badly written (double negatives), it actually says that they WOULD pay for compensation. Very sporting of them i say!

Unless there is section in firearms act 1997 or another act of Parliament that's specifcally states that no compensation will payed out for confiscated property / firearms etc then that note is a load of rubbish and is designed to discourage fac holders buying these types of firearms !
Currently the only way to have your property confiscated without compensation are ; under proceeds of crime, order by a court or a conviction of high treason !

No it is not. It was brought into force by a Statutory Instrument. It's as much part of legislation as any other part of any of the Firearms Acts or Acts that have a reference to firearms. Of which there is around 100 separate pieces of legislation and SIs.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

The statutory instrument may allow the secetary of state to ban firearms that are especially dangerous but does it specify whether or not compensation is payed or not ? If it doesn't then I would suggest that compensation is another matter; ie confiscation of property by the stateSim G wrote:joe wrote:Unless there is section in firearms act 1997 or another act of Parliament that's specifcally states that no compensation will payed out for confiscated property / firearms etc then that note is a load of rubbish and is designed to discourage fac holders buying these types of firearms !

Confication of property is covered under constitutional law ;
Grants of Forfeitures.
That all Grants and Promises of Fines and Forfeitures of particular persons before Conviction are illegall and void
Bill of rights act -current form - according to legislation UK this clause has not been expressly repealed

Banning "especially dangerous" items is actually enshrined in several pieces of primary legislation and is not specific to firearms. The Statutory Instrument is a facility that allows ministers to expand on Primary Legislations broad frameworks and are used to enforce, clarify or amend without going to parliament. It's known as secondary or subordinate legislation. A minister could bring forward an SI at any time.
The precedent for no compensation has already been set. The VCR Act 2006 saw to that.
This is why barristers specialise in specific areas, there is literally tons of law around any given arena and even a cr@p brief can make 500 quid a day.

VCR act which banned the brococks was slightly different ( from the 97 confiscation) has it gave grandfather rights to exsting owners. If this is case in future bans (grandfather rights) then you right, you keep it for life or hand it in

Unfortunately, the Bill of Rights is dead in the water with regards to this. The concept was explored at the time and I remember legal opinion being, (paraphrased) "Don't hand it in on the basis of this "Right" and once convicted of possession of a prohibited item, confiscation and any other sanction, upto and including incarceration, will be levied against you."
We're on a hiding to nothing. We have little support, we have no leverage, we are at the mercy of a nest of vipers.

"Grandfather rights" weren't so in the strictest sense. Some of us were allowed to keep our SCGC air guns as long as we satisfied very specific criteria. And that was from being unrestricted to qualifying for an FAC. Those that couldn't qualify had no option, handed in for destruction, with no compensation.
