Police National reports to the Ministry of Interior while the Police Municipale is recruited & reports to the mayor. Only him has authority to allow his police to be armed or not & weapons' purchase comes from his budget. After the January attacks, the state offered the option to provide weapons held in stock by the police Nationale. His political colour of the Mayor has therefore a lot to do in the decision process but also the fear agents could actually use their guns & create an "incident".

A French Right-wing MP, Philippe Meunier, has even demanded that French MPs be allowed to "conceal & Carry".
While I doubt many of them has any firearms worth talking about, it makes perfect sense to me but I wonder why did he stop at MPs ?
Is it because most of them are largely responsible for the current situation that their life is more valuable than mine ?
oui!

Anyway, anything that gives credibility to armed citizens disposing of bad people has to be good doesn't it? Or are drug dealers not supposed to hate or stop terrorists given the chance. ;) One gets the feeling the issue is not so much their occupation as the fact they (supposedly) did what they did.
