As long as it appears 'on the books' and a receipt is issued I don't really see what the issue is.

90% sure a cash buy is the issue- it has to be done via bank transfer (as it's immediately traceable) or cheque.

When I'm not p*** and a little bored I'll look up the statute.

I work on one of the largest Chemical sites in the UK. The whole thing is fenced in. We have security cameras and security persons 24/7. You can not get on the site unless you have a electronic pass with face recognition . The area I work in you have to have another pass to get in through electronic gates and you can only access the areas the pass is valid for. Over the last six month we have had at least 500yards of 2" thick earth cable stolen from three separate secure areas. I wonder which bank account they got that money paid into when they weighed it in.

this is why I always make sure i get in with Security.

when i used to work in Harrow, we would have security, bag searching on the gate, but as i used to go down and chat when I went to stores etc, and would repair stuff for them free, I was told numerous times on the bag check, 'it's ok Stu, i'm not even looking.' so the amount of homework etc that went out past them !

car checks for bringing your own car on site were even more laughable, no searches on the way in, so they don't know what you have to begin with, then searched on the way out.

Many years ago in a different life we used to lose Pyro (Copper clad cable) that was being installed overnight, come back the next morning and complete coils had been chopped off. So we connected it up to 110v across two phases. I got a real telling off from a production manager because one of his chaps was 'tidying' the cable which was 15 feet above head height and had received a belt. Heh!

There was also the saga of stripping out all of the old overhead cables which were hard drawn copper from an old plant. The kind hearted types used to go in at night and pinch it so someone powered it back up. 415v 3 phase at probably 60 Amps from memory. There was no more copper pilfering and to this day I still have the bolt cutters somewhere that were found at the bottom of a telegraph pole. They are still perfectly serviceable. Heh!

On that occasion nobody complained however we were a tad worried about the whole affair.

I weighed in about 50kg recently.

It was all recorded via invoice etc and paid in cash.

As long as the scrap venue confirms the sellers ID it is legal.
