I have taken my shotgun to belfast several times with easy jet and brought it back with them too never once had a problem the gun is labeled up they get you to make sure it's unloaded then you padlock the case and off it goes then when you reach the other side in belfast you will get taken into a side room where you will need to produce your licence which is checked against your firearm /shotgun and then your free to carry on just remember to take the firearms sticker/tags off

??? I checked Easy Jet and they have no flights from Dublin! So not of any use to me (or my American friend)

Why would he need a flight from Dublin if he is flying into Belfast?

American will not carry ANY firearm - modern OR antique - in checked baggage between UK & USA.

Virgin allows one case of "sporting guns" FREE !

I had that happen at the airport in Switzerland......asked police where to collect firearms (S1 shotgun)...he just pointed to the carousel. They were very relaxed about it..unlike BA and their myriad of forms (albeit you get right to the front of the queue). To be fair though they called me to tell me I hadn't booked any ammo - did I want to add some..?? .Now that's service!

Every year for the last 10 years of flying to Croatia my gun has come off the carousel with my suitcase in Zagreb airport .
No fuss or dramer with customs either just a glance at your rifle and euro firearms pass
And a look at your shooting invite and of you go.

It varies with country / airline / airport regulations. In the UK firearms are NOT to be loaded onto the luggage belts. I cannot comment on other countries. Some countries have very odd rules, which can cause problems even if the aircraft is just in transit or refuelling, and it's getting so complex that some airlines are taking the easy way out and just refusing to carry them. I know of one UK airport that will allow the import of commercial quantities of firearms but not the export of the same. The problem is thought to be with the Freight shed operator not the airport.

This is why I much prefer to use a Ferry, so much easier than flying even if you are distance limited unless you like long drives...

OK,Ovenpaa-what is the procedure on the ferry?-do you have to hand them over when boarding?locked in the safe? And from Calais or Dunkirk? Asking because maybe in the summer I will go on Holly's with my rifle, thnx-JB

That maybe the rule in the UK, however I have seen it ignored even at Heathrow.
