the AI is quite old now and is still the benchmark by which others are judged!

Are we talking "sniper" rifle or designated marksmans rifle......if it's a DMR I would say the Dragunov.I may be biased but it was the first rifle in the world designed from the ground up for the purpose rather than an accurized and scoped service rifle.Its designer was more renowned for biatholon target rifles than military rifles so accuracy isn't a problem and each rifle was issued with a matched PSO-1 4x24 scope which was widely regarded as the best and most advanced sniper scope available at the time of issue and it even had a 7.62x54r sniper round developed for it in the form of the 7n14 round.It was also semi-auto so it could also be used in relatively close fire-fights if need be but Russian sniper training stated that the rate of fire in normal use should be no more than two rounds a minute in order to maintain the accuracy standards that were set.It is a tough rifle that like it's stablemate the AK will keep going in the toughest conditions and still do what it says on the tin.It is not designed to be pin-point headshot at 1800m accurate but to be able to stick a round in an enemies chest out to 1000m which it will do easily.

As a sidenote the Russians called it a "sniper" rifle as there was no Russian military terminology for a DMR at the time it was issued......therefore all Russian scoped rifles are sniper rifles.

My Prickskyttegevär 90 is the best rifle I have at the moment.
I am in the process of buying a No 4T with its box and all the bits.the rifle has had three previous owners one of whom was HM the King. The rest of my rifles are going. I get so much enjoyment out of shooting the Psg90 that I have become bored with the others,so I have decided to become proficient with one rifle.
The No4T will be treated with respect until its passed to owner No 5.

That said it does have a distinctive look to it and is deceptively light.

I was amazed how light mine was !! But yet, easily manageable recoil ( mine was in .308 )

Especially when compared to other sniper rifles. Or even DM rifles like the LMT or M14 etc

With regards to Dragunov accuracy the Russian armies expected standard of accuracy for a Dragunov is virtually the same as for a M14.If the required standard is not achieved by a particular rifle it is rejected.

Years ago I had a Ngant with a PU scope that had the lens come loose so needed a replacement scope. I upgrade to a Swedish M41B which is a lovely rifle but at the moment I'm enjoying my No4T 'Replica' (Genuine scope Fake mount on a Long Branch that had pads fitted) I may be about to build an Enfrcer clone.

We are rather fond of our Finnish M28/76. Rugged, accurate and cheap to feed. It can pop the buttons on Farmer Giles' waistcoat at 300 mards...
