Since you are not fighting Isis stick with the 5.56mm you can do anything up 500 meters with it

Good plan, might just hang on until the other thing I was talking about comes up.... maybe. I'm still thinking things over.

If you were fighting ISIS there's a good chance you would be using 5.56mm, lots of US supplied weapons over there.

I reckon a few ISIS are using 5.56, either from iraqi soldiers that changed sides or shipments that the US "Accidentally" dropped in the area for ISIS to pick up or also given by their "vetted" rebels (they use that word like they're trying to convince themselves too). So yes even ISIS likely has 5.56 mm.

If you feel you should have got a 7.62x39 in the first place go with your gut feeling. Some will say go with the x39, others will say .223 but only you can decide. When I was searching for a Dragunov there were three .308 versions for sale and no 7.62x54r ones but I stuck it out as I knew in my own mind that if I was spending 2k on a rifle it would be what I actually wanted, if you know what I mean.

I go through phases and have to learn to go with my gut rather than following the crowd. But I do try and learn but it seems I still need to do some work on that.

Pick the six most local gunshops to you and give them a call. Ask two questions; what factory 7.62x39 ammo do you have in stock, and what factory .223 do you have in stock? Or, what suitable bullets for each....

If you just "have" to have a 7.62 short, get it, because you'll always regret not doing so. You may find it works for you or you might end up trying to shift it when you've realised it was a mistake...

I'm still learning Sim, you've had more time on this planet so I have some catching up to do with alot of the members. I need to experience different calibers and get some regrets out of my system.

The 7.62x39 is a cracking cartridge I'm having great fun with it I'm currently playing with cast loads. I have had several .223 calibre rifles in the past boring boring. I'm talking about bolt action rifles I had never heard of the VZ58 MARS until I read this thread I googled it probably the ugliest rifle I have ever seen in my life.

Its of its time. In the 50's there was a transition period. The big ejection port allows to to be fed with sks stripper clips while the mag is in place. Plus czech pride meant they wanted an non AK to be in 7.62x39.
