Better late than never, the results are in - sort of. The Gat turned out to be a Diana, and I couldn't get the bicycle pump to go over both sensors on the chrono. What with my patience being distinctly limited I used my son's market-stall springer instead of the bicycle pump. Thought they were probably similarly powerful!

The contenders: Red plastic chinese thing vs. Diana Model 2


The Diana: average 282.2 fps, 1.33 ft/lb
The red plastic Chinese thing: average 156.2 fps, 0.10 ft/lb

Pointless maybe,but atleast they're tested and it was just for fun.Suprised the Diana can still put out a little bit of power considering how old it is.

Ahhhh the Gat and such like, what we grew upon, could fire anything..albeit not very far..Used to be sold with these wee .177 darts or smoothbore pellets (not the waisted ones, remember them anyone).

What about these wee Sekiden (was it) guns - they seemed to pack a wee hit if I recall.

Don't remember the smoothbore pellets, when we ran out of proper pellets the ammo of choice at our school was the leads from those pop-a-point pencils. Fitted almost perfectly as I recall and more than one of us copped one in the back of the legs in the playground. They'd probably hang you for that now! I'd almost forgotten all about those Sekiden things too, can't remember how they worked though.

I had a few Sekidens in their time. An uncle had access to the bulk bags of balls - unlabelled and free! My cousin, his son, worked in a machine shop and uprated a couple of my guns and the range was twice as far as "the enemy". He also made one which fired steel ball bearing - they would break windows but that was confiscated!

Cor,, aint seen of them for years,,,,we used to have the old spud guns aswell,, firing potatoe pellets at each other,,,those were the days,, did that now and you would have an armed response unit there in minutes,,,,where has all the fun of being a kid and growing up gone??
