Dave, did you look into the .243AI versus the SLR before making your decision?

Not really ...the SLR caught my eye in having a long neck and 30 degree shoulder .....hopefully equals reduced throat torching and enhanced accuracy.

I am also Boron coating...its all experimentation but good results so far re accuracy and range/velocity.

I use the 6XC for 1000 yard benchrest and the 6mmSmack for F Class. It'll never compete with a 7mmWSM at 1000 yards but I just love little sixes. What comps are you planning to do Dave?

Well I have just ordered a .243 heavy Bartlein 5R 1:7.5 twist stainless barrel which is a good start and the choice of action is a given so next choice is the chambering and I must admit the SLR is looking good. Another job is decide on a barrel length as we have a target weight to work to...

If you are working to 17lb Light Gun weight, a 29 inch heavy profile (1.25in. to an inch at the muzzle) should make weight. An inch of barrel usually saves about 4oz. You could get away with 28 inch if need be. Brakes are permitted but you don't need one with a 'six'.

No need for fluting, the rifle will come in at around 7Kgs as is.
