V3 for me too. Can you not mount it 3 or 9 o'clock for odd/different barrel configurations/shapes? Was thinking this might work for my Marlin but not tried it yet.

Dromia - have you ever considered that the Magnetospeed bayo doesn't have to be on the bottom - for the like of the SMLE and others, it can just as easily go on the side.

I had a Steinert prior to the V3 - far too much"faff" involved to get reliable reults - the Magnetospeed V3 just works.

I haven't tried the V3 magneto speed but the previous versions were just not workable in any configuration

What I need is some one close to me to bring a V3 round so I can try it on a few rifles to see.

It's really pretty versatile. I'll have mine at the range next weekend, hopefully someone will have an SMLE or No.4 to hand for fitting trials.

What amazed when on getting mine was just how accurate it is - as I said the Steinert is so much faff to use.

If I get the chance to try the V3 on an Enfield or two I'll take some pix.

it only straps to the forend or barrel does it not? could you not just knock up a spacer to get it the right distance from the barrel if non of the supplied spacers will do the job?
or is it a bit more precise than that?

also, does it work with pure lead boolits?

The previous versions may or may not have worked with lead as it was at the end of its sensitivity range, as this sensitivity was adjustable some could be made to work other wouldn't.

The V3 is supposed to have recognised this and the reports I've had from the states from lead shooters is that the V3 is more reliable in this regard.

That is why I am now looking at getting one if the fitting has been made more flexible for a better selection of rifle types.

This has got me thinking of another way to approach the problem fitting the Magnetospeed v3 to older rifles.

Most of these rifles are military and have bayonet lugs, so why not make use of them.

For example the No 4 lee Enfield and the No4 Mk 11 spike bayonet. Cut off the spike and make use of the shroud and catch to attach the magnetospeed in its place.
I am sure that a simple and cheap fitting could be made for most military type rifles

That's a good idea - but perhaps this wouldn't be so easy for rifles other than the No.4.

I suspect it would beeasier just to mount the V3 Bayo on the side of the rifle rather than on the bottom.

On the subject of sensitivity to different types of projectile, the Magnetospeed has avariable sensitivity setting.

The V3 also has an accessory Picantinny rail adapter which I suspect could also be adapted for bayonet lug use.
