I'm in a similar position, but I think I'm going lever-release over a MARS, I prefer the form-factor of an AR.

Someone who offers an AR-15/AR-10 lever release conversion service is going to get very, very rich...

I've been experimenting with lead boolets in mine, definitely possible. Its a lot easier to go to a range where you can use FMJs and shoot factory though :-)

Right, time has come that I want to get one of these, can anyone help on the following?

1. Seems pretty much SGC are the only ones who sell them?
2. Reputations appear poor (from what I read, but I tend to go on my own gut than others comments) but are the guns any good?
3. Spec recommendation?

I'm left handed so a pre-owned one will likely to be rare.

Looked at MARS etc but prefer the AR platform.

Anyone any pointers?

I have the 223 one, I think its the one used in the video, (Used) have to say I love it, so well built , stunning engineering by SGC, the only thing for me is the kick from releasing the lever release if you get my drift !! I am a Yourkshire man and I found Bob was great once you got to him, Ok he was hard work at first but then most geniuses can be !!!! eccentric ,

1. SGC are the only manufacturers of lever release AR's
2. The excellent rifles and lack of choice are the only reason he's still in business
3. What are you going to use it for?

Are you after a 9mm/45ACP one or .223? JUst i can't imagine there'll be ANY S/H .223 ones, let alone left handers

Having owned a SGC 45ACP version, I would make the following comments:

It was nicely put together, everything looked, fitted and moved as intended.
Where they suffer is that they are a small production run custom product and there hasn't been enough design and testing to produce something with first class reliability (it took years and thousands of units to get the M-16 & SA-80 right).

Accuracy was only "adequate".

It was never reliable enough for serious competition.

Not that any of the problems couldn't be fixed - just that there haven't been enough of them produced to shake all the bugs out.

Despite the above, it was a lot of fun.

The more I read this site the one thing that seems very apparent is that SGC need a good front man ? as the products are first class, sometimes in life you can be a brilliant engineer but not the best people person ?

I agree the fact that so few of them are around means the testing is being done in the field so to speak, but so far so good with mine. 223.

If you want one gt on the order list as one bit of good news is they have come down in price :)
