I've sold 10+ firearms through guntrader, never had any issues.
Usually get emails more than phone calls, the buyer doesn't get your email address until after you reply.
Also with phones these days you don't have to list your number in the directory, and you can block any nuisance calls with ease.

We have had emails from people wanting us to ship a 12,7x99 Fortmeier and an Accuracy International to a friend 'As a surprise' yeah, well guess what... The other we see a fair amount of is can we ship 'xyz' magazines to somewhere odd overseas, sure we can as long as they provide an Import Licence or similar and an EUU to enable us to apply for an Export licence, that usually scares them off.

Had a caller a few years ago wanting to but an old SxS shotgun that I had put up on GT.
When I asked him to bring his ticket with him the phone went quiet........"What ticket" he said.
"Your shotgun certificate"......................
"Couldn't you just sell it to me without a shotgun certificate".
He hadn't withheld his number and I did inform West Mid's, but he denied everything when they went to speak with him. Reckoned he was just trying to find out how to buy a shotgun and get his licence. Changed my number after that as I kept getting phone calls in the middle of the night with no-one there.

i think every one of these calls should be reported straight away to plod as unlike your common criminal these sorts are the crank who likes to go postal !
interesting fact in some us states private gun sales (ie. not RFD'S ) no paperwork or backgorunds checks are required !
some say this loophole in their gun laws

That is only for rifles and anyone selling a rifle privately, unless they know the person really really well most folks will insist that the transfer goes through an FFL (RFD) dealer.
The (legal) sale or transfer of pistols has to be done through an FFL dealer regardless of State as this is Federal law.

They may well have met up in a carpark and been legit as long as the following criteria was met.
1. The buyer had a permission to purchase tag from his county Sheriffs Department which is filled out by the seller. The seller and buyer keep a copy each and the remaining two copies are returned to the Sheriffs department who send off one copy to the State Police. Failure to return the two remaining copies means trouble big time.
2. The buyer also has current a Concealed Pistol Permit (CPL), having a CPL shows the buyer is not a felon and that the necessary background checks have already been done. Without a CPL the purchase must go through an FFL dealer.
Anything else is illegal.

That makes sense mate. The doc was clearly biased and trying to scaremonger but I figured they had to be somewhat close to the truth, they just glossed over the facts :-)
