When is an "obsolete" calibre not and "obsolete" calibre?

I've just noticed that the list of obsolete cartridges is for centre fire rounds. The original round for the Swedish rolling block was a rimfire therefore the exemption will be found in para 8.9 of the current HO guidance.

Except the majority of these rifles were converted to centre fire with the same calibre designation...

If you have a rifle converted to Centrefire it follows that as the centrefire ammunition is not listed it cannot be classified as Section 58(2). so you have the following choices:-
1) Do nothing and 'Hope'
2) Hope that somebody else does something about it.
3) Scream for the HBSA / NRA to do something about it.
4) Write to both the HBSA and the NRA asking them to take it up with the Home Office as a matter of urgency, assuming that you are a member of either organisation.
5) Write to the Home Office asking why it is not on the list and when will it be added to the list.

I would be inclined to ask Jim Hallam who I suspect is in the "know" on this subject/calibre.

Ask the Home Office. They are the ONLY ones who can give a ruling that will keep you out of the clink. I know Jim Hallam and he is a font of knowledge but he is not a lawyer nor is he a Home Office official.
Why are shooters so lazy /scared to pick up a phone and call the Home Office with perhaps a follow up e mail or letter. It's always 'Ask Bill' / He said / she said, I saw it in TV, on the net, written in the stars.
If YOU want the answer then YOU ask the Home Office.

David....that book is on my bedside table.....I already have a 45/100, .43 Egyptian and 11.44 Danish and am looking at a .43 Spanish....the 12.7 would have been nice to add to the collection...

The option just to "wing it" does not apply, I have far too much to lose if caught out, I do have what is considered a large collection of Sec1 rifles and a lot of Sec58s......the police are aware of this and that I do swap them around quite often....they are always accomodating and I do not want to upset that arrangement by having something that technically is "illegal"....

If only it were that easy......as far as the Home Office is concerned the reclassification of firearms to Sec58 is not exactly high on their list of priorities......and the police are not interested either.

The Home Office have been challenged on this matter in the past and they are just not interested, the "latest" Home Office Sec58 list is no different to the one that I had about 20 years ago.

Latest Quarterly Bulletin of the H.B.S.A. October 2014. Page 8. I quote " Good News. .41 Colt has been added to the 'Obsolete Calibre' list-the only change. The next planned update for the Guide will be at the end of the year"
I therefore suggest that you start writing to the Home Office and if a member of the H.B.S.A. ask them to support your case. If you don't try you will certainly not get anywhere. If you do try you at least have a chance.
