She should try putting the blame where it actually lies, Bird, Atherton, Ryan, Hamilton etc. ALL had no business being granted an FAC in the first place. Athertons own FEO recommended he not have his guns returned yet was overruled by one of the most incompetent police licensing departments in the UK.

Put the blame on the police for not applying the law or Home Office guidelines with any uniformity, every police forces licensing department enforces the law and guidelines differently, sometimes with tragic results.

The quote from the coroner ""The Durham Coroner, the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Home Affairs Select Committee have all proposed tougher rules to prevent people with a history of drug or alcohol abuse, mental illness and violence – especially domestic violence – from acquiring firearms licenses""

These rules are already in place and are applied correctly by many police forces but not all, Durham has an appalling record concerning firearms and it was that departments failing that resulted in the Horden shootings. If they had followed the law and H.O. guidance Atherton would never have been given his firearms back in the first place.

I would agree, we do need a sensible and balanced review of our gun law, banning whole classes of Firearm is just simply plain lazy, vote winning politics.

You can't have pistols, far too dangerous for the likes of you......unless you need them for humane dispatch.....oh..... or pre 1919 under Sec 7..... Just bloody ridiculous law making!!!

Why ban a rifle like the Garand, complete bloody nonsense!

Remember Politicians of all colours are (in general), egocentric, attention seeking, self serving individuals.

They lack the necessary inclination for clear, well thought out and drafted, long term Firearms legislation....in my humble opinion..

The Conservatives at least left us with small calibre handguns in the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997...

...and they didn't give a knee-jerk reaction after Bird or Atherton either.

All other politics aside, they're certainly better for lawful shooters than a Labour 'government'.

Then get organised and defend yourselves! You've got two years to get it done, sitting there as a group feeling sorry for yourselves won't achieve anything. Jesus H Christ if any antis are reading this thread they must be rubbing their hands with glee thinking you lot aren't going to be hard to defeat. Christel, well you could start with a group of like minded people getting together and taking it from there. If it's going to be a new organisation then it needs a name, then it needs an agenda, then it needs to set out it's aims. Then, you start canvassing for new members at gun clubs, going to clubs and talking to them, setting up a tent a Bisley during shoots. There, there's something to be going on with. BTW the group of people meeting should ideally be from England, Scotland and Wales. Hell you could even get together using Skype or some other program. You guys need to really start thinking about this. I tell you Christel, if I lived there I'd seriously be on it to get something going, unfortunately I live here.
