Hi Dave,

I like to collect odd cases too (the only aluminium one I have is Russian), so though I'd have look - if you put '5.56 aluminium case sf' into google, there is a little info...possibly a French military training round, used with plastic bullets..?

Looks like you are correct Dougan , I found them on the range yesterday , 25 yd indoors , safe to use if they are a training round . Your more than welcome to have these if you want them , I will have another look round next Sunday and see if theres any more about .
I dont collect , I just pick up what looks intersting and scrap them I picked up a Mauser 7.63 a couple of weeks ago . Its for the Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol , we have a Hertitage section so odd items turn up from time to time .

That's a very kind offer Dave, and one I can't say no to  - if you don't want them yourself, then anything unusual you find I would happily pay for the postage (+ beer  ) ...I'll PM you...

OK, as we're IDing cases....

Here's some of the 'odds and sods' from my meager collection:

heads.JPG

Some questions:

The .303 blank in the middle - it doesn't look like a standard blank...is for something else like launching...?

The rimless .22 on the right - This I can't find anything about...is says 'Rem' on the head (so Remington), but has no rim at all...?

Quiz:

Easy one - what's the thing at the front?

Not so easy - The 9mm on the left...what environment would you be most likely to find this one in, in the UK...?

The .303 case could be for grenade launching from a No. 4
The 9mm looks like it could be a frangiable cartridge , used by sky marshalls on aircraft .
A flechette from a shotgun cartridge .

Someone else said that about the .303 :good:

Yes, a flechette :good: ....didn't know it was from a shotgun though....

And the 9mm - no, something else....

The 9mm on the left is a blank, used in semi and full auto weapons.
