Thats what WD40 is for! Spray liberally down the barrel while its still hot to get rid of the water and it also cools it down.

Methanol is a good way to get rid of water just spray in down the barrel. Displaces the water. Just make sure the barrel is not to hot LOL.
I have never had much look with ultrasonic baths I dont rate them at all.

I bow to your experience.

Hire a gun from the NRA and it is likely that some parts at least will have been washed in an ultrasonic bath, dried in an air drier and oiled in a spray.

If you think we are doing it wrong, and are a Member, I would be delighted to have you come in to the armoury and show us how to do it right.

On the morning of Sunday 9 September, after the Open Day, we will have about 200 guns to clean. My staff is me (firearms manager), Fred (armourer) and Paul (armoury assistant). We will still be running armoury issues and returns, ammo sales, firearm hire and all the other things we do on an ordinary weekend day. We would wish to get those guns cleaned with maximum effectiveness and minimum effort. Currently the ultrasonic bath is a core part of our plan. If it is not considered effective, your expertise and labour will be welcome.

Lest anyone think the last sarcastic

I am serious

The Open Day involves about 240 Members volunteering their services to deliver shooting to the visiting public. Currently the organisation depends on the staff and a couple of Members committing really serious amounts of time. A few (or indeed a lot of) Members willing to help in depth with the background work would be greatly appreciated.

Just curious, but how do you buy methanol? In the old days car antifreeze was made from it,but was always inferior to glycol due to only having a lifespan of 12 months when in the cooling system so its not now a widely used chemical with vehicles. Its one of those things which i've never noticed for sale!

My dad told me he ran a motorbike on aviation fuel for a while which went like the clappers, but quickly blew up.

Very off topic now... We had enough plastic containers for probably 125 litres of Bio fuel doing nothing so advertised them on eBlag and they sold. A couple of days the new owner turned up to take them away. In a brand new 3.5 litre 5 Series diesel touring which was a bit of a shock as he just slung them in the boot and on the beautiful cream leather back seats. turned out he was a contract aviation engineer and worked on Jet engines for private exec jets. Protocol dictated that if he worked on the fuel system and removed fuel it could not go back into the jet so he was not only paid to work on the plane, he was also paid to dispose of the fuel. Guess where it went?

Apparently he had a new BMW every couple of years and only ever ran the things on aviation fuel.
