50 quid in a pawn shop!!...that's just not fair :P

The fact that you're having to put a bit of work in, may make it even more satisfying...hope it shoots well :good:

It is important to 'own' your rifle and if that means stripping, checking and cleaning the rifle before shooting it all adds to the process. :good:

Badger , Nah I knew what I was buying but man was it dirty, it was like a layer of copper then a layer of crud then more copper and then crud. Anyway all done now and the barrel looks nice as new. I have just slugged the barrel and it comes out at 310.3 both on digital callipers and dial ones. I have a good feeling about this rifle.

Dougan, I don't mind the wee bit of work in the slightest, she's a bonny rifle and deserves to be brought back to life again. Just wish my wife would stop muttering stuff like " Huh rifles get more attention than me" Totally false and uncalled for of course but then again she is getting on in years and her faculties might not be what they once were.

Ovenpaa, it's just gone 18:35 here and after supper stripping her down, checking her out and giving her a good clean is on the agenda for tonight.

Well I stripped the rifle down and there was nothing to do. The bluing on the barrel is in immaculate condition. I don't think this rifle has been shot all that much looking at the barrel and the condition of the wood. I'd say the only thing that was wrong was that it was never cleaned properly after firing. That has now been rectified and it's looking good.

Gaz wrote:£50! You can't buy barrels for £50, never mind complete rifles! Looks like a decent condition one, let us know how it shoots.

I know someone who recently paid £80 for a 1947 No4 Longbranch and the only thing wrong are the holes where it had been drilled and tapped for a scope at some point in its life. Some people have all the luck!

This No4 is a beauty though! Enjoy her! :goodjob:
