Should it stay... or go
Hi all. Good weekend?
Question, or rather "what would you do?"
I have a rifle, big deal I hear you cry, we all do. This is correct, however, this partiular rifle is not used much at all. I think I've shot it once this year... I think. We shall call this... Rifle A.
I have another rifle in the same calibre, I shall call this Rifle B, and I "love" shooting it, however, when I shoot Rifle A I don't "love" it, I simply get a "eh, you're okay" feeling. Whenever I go to shoot, I open the cabinet, look at the two rifles and grab Rifle B.
However, Rifle A was my first full-bore rifle, so I feel a little bit attached to it. Well, it wasn't actually my first, let me explain. My first FB rifle was a Mosin-Nagant M91/30 when I was 18 years old and to be honest the rifle was... crap. Not in that charming way Mosin Nagants are, but I mean crap. The barrel was shot out and the ammo I had for it was heavy MG ball where every third round burst and spit crud in my eyes. And to an innocent 18 year old, this was unpleasent - so I traded the Mosin for Rifle A - so you can argue, I didn't really want Rifle A, it was just an easy trade.
So, the "what would you do" moment, if you have a rifle that you don't use that much, but upon selling you "might" feel bad about it if you did - would you sell the rifle, or keep it in case you can reignite the spark in the relationship?
Bring on the peer-pressure.

Re: Should it stay... or go
Is there an option to rebarrel to a different calibre for added interest?
Re: Should it stay... or go
There is always an option
But it's a classic-military rifle and is 90+ years old. So I'd rather keep her whole, and not bubba* her up.
*Bubba? When did that word creep in. [Sigh] Been spending too long talking to yanks

For me it's easy - move it on.
I have no problems selling one to get another - in fact I can get bored with a firearm fairly quickly and then feel the need to shift it for something else.
Take some photos of Rifle A as a record and then sell it!

Re: Should it stay... or go
Recently sold my first TR rifle. I'd had it for over 30 years but not shot it for probably 3 years and couldn't afford to put a decent scope on it as a backup F Class rifle. Took me nearly a year to pluck up courage but actually found it quite exciting - in a strange kind of way - to see it moving on to be the first TR rifle for a new chap in my club. Now don't miss it at all - especially as he sent me photos of it in it's new paint job - Black Baron, hmmmmm
So go on, give it up.

If it's an Enfield keep, anything else sell or trade.

Sell it.
Life's too short (and ammo too expensive) to waste time on un-loved rifles.
